"The Christmas Schooner" has been performed in the Chicago area every year, except for one, since 1995. And yet, I know for a fact that new theatergoers are discovering it all the time. Hence, it's a good thing that the Mercury Theater on Southport Avenue has mounted this story--based on a real slice of Chicago history--for the second year, and has already announced it for next year as well. It's one of the most popular musicals across the country to originate in Chicago, and we are proud to call it our own.

Tweeting and writing about theatre has brought me back into the community I lost when I was an actor. The solitary act of tweeting became a means to connect with thousands of theatre-lovers like me. As my list of readers grew longer, I also sought out other voices sharing their words & thoughts with the digital world. It has been a delight to join a community, not unlike the casts I knew in my acting days, of passionate consumers of theatre. Under the direction of Tyler Marchant, FREUD'S LAST SESSION centers on legendary psychoanalyst Dr. Sigmund Freud, who invites the young, rising academic star C. S. Lewis to his home in London. Lewis, expecting to be called on the carpet for satirizing Freud in a recent book, soon realizes Freud has a much more significant agenda.

FREUD'S LAST SESSION, the runaway hit play by Mark St. Germain now in its second successful year in New York, is coming "for a session" at the Mercury Theater (3745 N. Southport, Chicago), making its Midwest Premiere previewing March 21, opening March 28 with tickets on sale through June 3. FREUD'S LAST SESSION won the 2011 Off Broadway Alliance Award for Best Play.
