16th Merit Award Honors Todd Rosenthal 4/27 At Steppenwolf

The 16th Annual Merritt Award for Excellence in Design and Collaboration program, honoring world class scenic designer Todd Rosenthal (August: Osage County), will take place on Monday, April 27, at the Steppenwolf Merle Reskin Garage Theatre. The doors open at 5:30 p.m. with a viewing of the third annual ?Theater Design Expo' showcasing the works of over 20 Chicago-area emerging theatrical designers and a student portfolio review. Martha Lavey, Artistic Director of Steppenwolf Theatre Company, will moderate an inclusive discussion, 'Moving Chicago Productions to New York and Beyond' with the awardees, Director Anna Shapiro and Joshua Schmidt, composer and librettist, from 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.

Artistic Director, Brady Schwind announced full casting today for the Neighborhood Playhouse's West Coast Premiere production of Charles Busch's acclaimed new comedy, OUR LEADING LADY. The production opens the Neighborhood Playhouse's 2009 season, running February 19 - March 8. Glover Joins 'GODOT', Steps in for Exiting Strathairn

John Glover will portray 'Lucky' in Roundabout Theatre Company's new Broadway production of Waiting for Godot, directed by Anthony Page and starring (in order of speaking) Nathan Lane (Estragon), Bill Irwin (Vladimir) and John Goodman (Pozzo). David Strathairn was previously announced to play 'Lucky.' He had to regretfully leave the production prior to rehearsals beginning.

GARDEN OF EARTHLY DELIGHTS Extends Until 5/31

Rhoda Herrick has just announced that Garden of Earthly Delights will be extending its run for the second consecutive time, continuing through Sunday, May 31 at the Minetta Lane Theatre (18 Minetta Lane). The show, which opened to rave reviews on November 19, began previews on November 8 and was originally slated to run through January 18. The first extension would run through March 1 before the latest announcement today. Tickets for this extension are currently on sale through Ticketmaster; www.Ticketmaster.com or (212) 307-4100. Margaret Selby of CAMI Spectrum is booking an international tour for the 2009/2010 season.

Guleghina, Domingo, Borodina Star In Adriana Lecouvreur 2/6

Maria Guleghina and Pl?cido Domingo star in Cilea's Adriana Lecouvreur, which opens at the Metropolitan Opera on February 6 with Domingo returning to sing the role of his Met debut 40 years ago. Guleghina sings Adriana, the famous actress in love with the military hero Maurizio, sung by Domingo. Olga Borodina sings the Principessa di Bouillon, Adriana's rival for Maurizio's affections, and Roberto Frontali is Adriana's faithful friend Michonnet. Marco Armiliato conducts all performances, and Marcello Giordani sings the role of Maurizio on February 17. All the principal singers other than Domingo are performing their roles for the first time at the Met. Mark Lamos stages this revival, with set designs by C.M. Cristini after sketches by Camillo Paravicini and costume designs by Ray Diffen with additional costumes by Jane Greenwood. Lighting design is by Duane Schuler and choreography by Sergei Gritsai.

Long & Crowley Among 4 Recipients Of Irene Sharaff Awards

Legendary designers WILLIAM IVEY LONG and BOB CROWLEY are among the four recipients of the 2009 TDF/Irene Sharaff Awards. Five-time Tony Award winning costume designer William Ivey Long will receive the 2009 TDF/Irene Sharaff Lifetime Achievement Award for theatrical costume design, and, for his achievements as both a costume and scenic designer, Bob Crowley (also a five-time Tony Award winner) will receive the TDF/Irene Sharaff Awards' special Robert L. B. Tobin Award for Lifetime Achievement in Theatrical Design at a ceremony on Friday, March 27, at the Hudson Theatre in New York City.

The production began performances Saturday, November 8 at Off-Broadway's Minetta Lane Theatre, 18 Minetta Lane. The limited 12-week engagement officially opened Wednesday, November 19th. BroadwayWorld took a trip downtown to take in the art filled opening night.
