BWW Interview: Bill Russell and Jill Sapenoff Talk ELEGIES FOR ANGELS, PUNKS AND RAGING QUEENS at Birdland

On Monday, February 29, 2016, the Broadway at Birdland concert series will be presenting Elegies for Angels, Punks and Raging Queens as a benefit concert. With music by Janet Hood, lyrics and additional text by bill Russell, the piece is comprised of songs and monologues inspired by the NAMES Project AIDS Memorial Quilt and Edgar Lee Masters' Spoon River Anthology. To get the inside scoop on the upcoming star studded concert, I chatted with Russell and director Jill Sapenoff.

After a very successful debut concert with Sueño Pop: A Latin Pop Concert, Jose Sepulveda and SepLo Productions present the second concert in the #sueñopop series, Sueño Pop: Crossover. The one night only event will feature some of Broadway and TV's hottest young stars singing music by some of Latin Pop/Rock's biggest players including Jennifer Lopez, Ricky Martin, Enrique Iglesias and many more. Songs will be in both English and Spanish.

25 years to the day the film was released, HEATHERS: THE MUSICAL, the new stage adaptation of Daniel Waters' iconic 1989 dark comedy, made its New York premiere at New World Stages. Written by Olivier Award winner and Tony Award nominee Laurence O'Keefe and Emmy Award winner Kevin Murphy, HEATHERS: THE MUSICAL is directed by famed stage and screen director Andy Fickman, with choreography by Emmy Award winner Marguerite Derricks. The third annual 'Night of A Thousand Judys' - presented by The Meeting* hosted by Justin Sayre - featured Maude Maggart(Entertainment Weekly's 'Must List'), Tituss Burgess ('30 Rock,' Jersey Boys), Rachel Shukert (Starstruck), John Early ('30 Rock') and Becca Blackwell (Untitled Feminist Show). Who Sang What at Last Night's BROADWAY BACKWARDS!

An extremely limited number of $20 rush tickets to this year's star-studded BROADWAY BACKWARDS will be released for sale at 6:30 PM Monday, March 18, 2013. The rush tickets will be sold in the lobby of the Palace Theater (1564 Broadway). They will not be available at the box office. Tickets will be sold on a first-come, first-served basis, cash only and are limited to two tickets per person. The show begins at 8 PM.

Vulture.com reports that the much maligned character 'Ellis', played by actor Jamie Cepero, may still be featured on the upcoming second season of NBC's SMASH. At this weekend's Television Critics Association Winter Press Tour, executive producer Neil Meron told reporters, 'Ellis is still alive.'
