Uptown Players, a professional theater group located in the Uptown area of Dallas, has announced its programming for its upcoming Gay History Play Festival. From September 28 through October 19, 2018, Uptown Players will present three plays with themes that focus on Gay History.

Solo performers from six continents will once again unite in the heart of New York's theatre district. Over 130 productions will be presented at this year's United Solo, the largest festival of its kind in the world, now in its 9th year. With up to five performances every day until November 18 at Theatre Row, this year's robust selection of one-person shows will attract thousands of theatregoers. Over 25 performances have sold out in advance, with more expected to follow. The festival will grant additional performance dates to its most popular productions. This year, United Solo also offers Master Classes with world-famous theatre creators and recognized experts, including Oscar-winning actress Olympia Dukakis, who will give her Master Class hosted by Omar Sangare, founder and artistic director of United Solo, on September 16, and Juilliard School professor Janis Brenner, whose Master Class is scheduled for September 17.

Due to popular demand, United Solo brings back Olympia Dukakis to teach in the Master Class Series on September 16, 2018 at Theatre Row in New York City. The class, "The Importance of Craft," will teach students to identify and develop what is important to them as performers. Ms. Dukakis will explain how to approach the craft of acting as a personal connection to the thoughts, actions, circumstances, and character, as expressed and defined by the text. "My most important tools when I teach are my own sensibility, my personal perceptions, my knowledge of the craft, and the excitement and satisfaction I always feel with students," said Ms. Dukakis.

Abingdon Theatre Company will launch their 26th season with a special one-night-only gala event on Monday, October 22 at The Edison Ballroom. The evening honors two-time Tony winner Donna Murphy (Hello, Dolly!; Passion; Wonderful Town).

Austin Pendleton will return to the studio at Theatre Row, NYC, to teach his fourth Master Class at the United Solo Professional Training Program. Participants will be coached on monologues and scenes.

SPACE on Ryder Farm--a nonprofit residency program for artists and activists located on a 223 year-old working organic farm in Brewster, NY--announced that applications for all of its 2019 residency programs are now open for submission. Due to increasing demand, SPACE announced in July that it was changing its submission process to allow the organization sufficient time for review.

This class, "Trusting the Text," investigates the ways in which the actor can mine, analyze, and explore the text to find a variety of personal resonance and character journeys.

Due to popular demand, United Solo brings back Austin Pendleton to teach in the Master Class Series on May 31, 2018 at Theatre Row in New York City. This class provides participants with the opportunity to meet, work, and be discovered by one of the most influential theatre directors. Austin Pendleton will spend time working with the participants on scenes and monologues. He will offer his critique and thoughts on participants' work, gradually trying to reach a wider evaluation of the strengths and potential of each actor. Participants are expected to bring a scene from material they are currently working on. All ages and levels of theatrical experience encouraged. Space is limited and offered on a first-come, first-served basis. "Participants of the United Solo Master Class Series have an incredible opportunity to work in a collaborative setting with industry leaders in theatre, television, and film. National Endowment for the Arts Chairman Jane Chu has approved more than $80 million in grants as part of the NEA's second major funding announcement for fiscal year 2018. Included in this announcement is an Art Works grant of $10,000 to 1st Stage for the 2nd Annual Logan Festival of Solo Performance. The Art Works category is the NEA's largest funding category and supports projects that focus on the creation of art that meets the highest standards of excellence, public engagement with diverse and excellent art, lifelong learning in the arts, and/or the strengthening of communities through the arts.

The world's largest solo theatre festival announced its 2018 selections, which include over 120 productions from all over the world. These productions represent various forms of theatre, dance, and performance art, and will be presented at Theatre Row. The 42nd Street venue has been home for United Solo since 2010. The festival is a resident company at Theatre Row, where it has presented nearly 1,000 productions from six continents over the past eight years.

Participants will learn the basics of preparing for auditions, developing a character, and exploring vocal possibilities for audiobooks, radio, podcasts, and interviews.
