Artistic Director of Nottingham Playhouse, Giles Croft, has today revealed plans for the fiftieth anniversary of its iconic building, which was opened by Lord Snowdon on 11 December 1963 under the leadership of John Neville, Frank Dunlop and Peter Ustinov. Reflecting the rich array of work produced there over the last half century, this year's programme contains the wide range of ambitious and high quality drama that has established The Playhouse as one of the leading regional theatres in the UK.

On Saturday September 22 the curtain came down on the last performance of the world premiere of the Maltby/Shire/Weidman musical, 'Take Flight', at the Menier Chocolate Factory - just proverbially of course, as the beautifully intimate space created by set designer David Farley dispensed with the use of a curtain. Instead the audience were drawn into a world on an open sand-strewn playing area that from the first moments captivated them in a triangular storyline concerning the trials and tribulations of the Wright Brothers' premiere flight as well as the lives of two other pioneers of aviation - Charles Lindbergh and Amelia Earhart.

Take Flight is a new musical by award-winning song writing duo Richard Maltby, Jr., and David Shire, with book by John Weidman. The creative team sees the award-winning trio of Sam Buntrock (Director), David Farley (Designer) and Caroline Humphris (Musical Supervisor) return fresh from their Olivier Award-winning success with Sunday in the Park with George.

Whatsonstage.com reports that Ian Bartholomew (Tommy, Into the Woods), Michael Jibson (Our House, Brighton Rock), Sam Kenyon (Sweeney Todd, Amadeus) and Elliot Levey (Beauty and the Beast) and Whatsonstage.com Award winner Sally Ann Triplett in the world premiere of Take Flight, the new musical by Richard Maltby Jr. and David Shire, set for its world premiere at London's Menier Chocolate Factory July 13, before running July 25-September 22.
