Hop on the 4 or the D train and travel north young men and woman to see art in the South Bronx. No, that's not a typo, I did not mean to say go see the Yankees. Like many inner cities including Detroit, the Bronx is best known for high crime, poor health condition and low test scores; However these inner cities are also the breeding ground for countless innovative film makers, music makers, visual artists and thought provoking thinkers. The why and how the tough conditions of these neighborhoods breeds an aesthetic flourishing is perplexing to figure out.

Bronx Museum Raises $1 Million for Art Acquisitions

According to the NY Times, the Bronx Museum of the Arts has raised $1 million for acquisitions and has added works by several major artists to its permanent collection.

I can see going to Venice for the food, for Lido's beaches and for the Gondolas. Heck, I'd go to the Jersey shore for two of the three. Why would you go to Venice for Contemporary art? The 55th Venice Biennale opened on June 1 and runs through November 24th; 88 countries have pavilions including the Vatican in this art world equivalent of the world cup for soccer socialites. Is it worth the trip, who can afford to treck the art trade show route and what's it all about-Alfie?

Hundreds of hopeful actors, ages 6 to 16, showed up at the Circle in the Square Theatre today, April 25, to audition for the Broadway musical GODSPELL. The audition panel, including director Daniel Goldstein, is looking to fill 10 roles in the show. About 300 kids, including Holly Block, Gaten Matarazzo and Ellis Gage, who are featured in the video below, performed 16 measures of music for the panel.

The Bronx Museum of the Arts will present the work of Sarah Sze at the U.S. Pavilion at La Biennale di Venezia, the 55th International Art Exhibition, on view from June through November 2013. Sze will create a sequence of constructed environments that will activate the Pavilion's architecture and extend beyond the building and into the courtyard-blurring perceptual boundaries between the site's interior and exterior.
