BWW Review: ABT Balances Lightness & Darkness in 2017 Fall Season
by Christina Pandolfi - Oct 29, 2017

As the audience filled the David H. Koch Theater on Oct 24, 2017 to watch American Ballet Theatre's fall season, one thing became very clear: Appreciation for classical ballet is alive and well in New York City. In a time of great global uncertainty and turmoil, having the arts to go back to is an immense comfort, because we can see ourselves in it: the good, the bad, and the yet-to-be-discovered. And in this season's selections, American Ballet Theatre proved that completely, committing to showcasing the beauty of balance between polar opposites.

It's always a bittersweet feeling when a company ends its season, and in the current political climate, one can never take the arts for granted. But on Friday July 7, 2017, the Metropolitan Opera House was atwitter with the promise of American Ballet Theatre's program dedicated to Tchaikovsky. BWW Review: American Ballet Theatre Offers a New Production of John Cranko's EUGENE ONEGIN, Courtesy of the National Ballet of Canada
by Sondra Forsyth - Jun 22, 2017

John Cranko's Eugene Onegin is often referred to as a “story ballet for grown-ups” since it is devoid of the fantasy birds and other magical creatures that populate so much of the classical ballet canon. The dancers portray real people with real emotions as Cranko brings to life Alexander Pushkin's iconic verse novel. Cranko's version of the tale has new plot twists that some critics have found dismaying while others have applauded them. I fall into the latter category.

by Christina Pandolfi - Jun 21, 2017

If ever someone were to look up “classical ballet” in the dictionary, an image captured from Swan Lake would certainly accompany its definition, thanks to its timeless grace and poise. On Wednesday June 14, 2017, American Ballet Theatre more than lived up to Swan Lake's storied reputation, as the company danced with both precision and pixie dust to create lyrical beauty that echoed Tchaikovsky's magical score.

BWW Review: American Ballet Theatre's Exquisite SWAN LAKE
by Andrew White - Jan 30, 2017

As with all classic ballets in order to bring it to the stage you must breathe new life into it, and create a narrative that balances fidelity to the original with the genius of the modern choreographer. Not to mention the unique talents and personalities of each dancer. Kevin McKenzie, ABT's Artistic Director, brings this 19th-century classic into the 21st century with great sensitivity, but also with a sense of fun and celebration.
