Tim Etchells Recieves 2016 Spalding Gray Award

The Spalding Gray National Consortium is pleased to announce that theater-maker and visual artist Tim Etchells is the recipient of the 2016 Spalding Gray Award. Named after the groundbreaking monologist Spalding Gray (1941-2004), the award is sponsored by a consortium that includes Kathleen Russo, Gray's widow; Performance Space 122; the Walker Art Center in Minneapolis;The Andy Warhol Museum in Pittsburgh; and On the Boards in Seattle. The Award comes with a $20,000 commission to create a new work and provides for a full production of that work presented by each organization. Past recipients include Richard Maxwell, Rabih Mroue, National Theater of the United States of America, Radiohole, and Heather Woodbury.

The Folk Music Society of NY celebrates Jean Ritchie, the "Mother of Folk", her life and music with a gathering to sing the songs that have inspired and touched so many. The concert takes place at 7:30pm at St John's Lutheran Church, 81 Christopher Street, Manhattan (just West of 7th Avenue). Contribution: General public $25, Folk Society members $20. The Folk Music Society of NY presents a Weekend of Song - concerts and workshops to inspire singing and playing for everyone. Friday and Saturday evening concerts and Saturday and Sunday daytime workshops feature a broad sweep of musical genres. This musical weekend takes place at Elizabeth Irwin High School in Greenwich Village. Participants may attend the weekend in whole or choose evening or daytime events according to their schedules. They won't want to miss anything.

Theatre Communications Group (TCG), the national organization for theatre and home of the U.S. Center of the International Theatre Institute (ITI-US), has released Brett Bailey and Diane Rodriguez's World Theatre Day 2014 messages. Each year, a renowned theatre artist of world stature is invited by ITI Worldwide in Paris to craft the International Message, which is then translated into more than 20 languages to mark the global occasion. This year, TCG has renewed their tradition of asking a noted U.S. artist to also reflect on the themes of World Theatre Day.
