FX Renews TYRANT for Second Season

FX has ordered a 13-episode second season of the drama series Tyrant, from Emmy(R) and Golden Globe(R) Award-winning Executive Producer/Showunner Howard Gordon, it was announced today by Nick Grad and Eric Schrier, the Presidents of Original Programming for FX Networks and FX Productions.

In the spirit of Facing Our Truth, The New Black Fest will commission 6 black male playwrights to write monologues and/or performance essays entitled HANDS UP: 6 playwrights, 6 testaments. The playwrights include Dennis Allen II, Nathan James, Nathan Yungerberg, Eric Holmes, Idris Goodwin, and Glenn NSangou.

X and FXX Networks have locked in the summer premiere dates for new and returning original series, including the highly anticipated new original dramas Tyrant and The Strain, as well as new comedies Married and You're the Worst. The Public Theater (Artistic Director, Oskar Eustis; Executive Director, Patrick Willingham) announced the 10 new playwrights today for the 2014-15 Emerging Writers Group. Now in its fifth cycle, the Emerging Writers Group is an ongoing initiative that targets playwrights at the earliest stages in their career, creating an artistic home, and offering support and resources for a diverse group of up-and-coming playwrights.

Ben Affleck to Direct Mob Drama Pilot for Fox

FOX Broadcasting Company (FOX) has given a pilot production commitment to The Middle MAN, a new drama produced by FOX and Pearl Street Films, and executive-produced by Academy Award winner Ben Affleck ('Argo,' 'The Town') and Emmy Award nominee Glenn Gordon Caron ('Medium,' 'Moonlighting'), who wrote the pilot script. Affleck ('Argo,' 'The Town,' 'Gone Baby Gone') is attached to direct the pilot. Pearl Street Films' Chay Carter ('Argo,' 'The Town,' 'Gone Baby Gone') will also serve as an executive producer on the project. Production is scheduled to begin in early 2014.
