San Francisco Opera's 2017 Summer Season opens Wednesday, May 31, with Giuseppe Verdi's Rigoletto at the War Memorial Opera House.

Boston Landmarks Orchestra (LO) under the direction of Music Director Christopher Wilkins, and Executive Director Jo Frances Meyer,  announces its 2017 season of free concerts at the DCR's Hatch Memorial Shell on the Esplanade. Slow Burn's AIDA will change your life and move your heart along the Nile, thanks to the phenomenal cast and masterful technical work.

The glittering musical tale of Nubian princess Aida comes to the Hale Centre Theatre in Gilbert May 18th through July 1st. This Broadway-style production by Sirs Elton John and Tim Rice is a modern retelling of Giuseppe Verdi's opera of the same name. It begins when a contemporary couple meet in the Egyptology wing of large big-city museum. They are suddenly and magically transported into a memory of their past lives the land of the Pharaohs when their love story began.

Music Director Riccardo Muti returns in April to lead the Chicago Symphony Orchestra (CSO) in three weeks of subscription concerts.  Muti and the CSO conclude the CSO's season-long presentation of Beethoven's piano concertos in a performance of the Piano Concerto No. 5 (Emperor) with Radu Lupu as soloist followed by a rare performance of A Symphony to Dante's Divine Comedy by Liszt (April 27-29 ). Muti's residency with the CSO culminates with performances of the complete cycle of symphonies by Johannes Brahms (May 4-9 and May 11-13). During his residency, Muti also leads the Civic Orchestra of Chicago in a free, open rehearsal on April 30.

This May, an award-winning soprano will sing to support chronic neuro-immune disease awareness. On Saturday, May 13th, 25-year-old Jacqueline Ko will present the gala benefit concert Here I Stand at Marpole United Church. The show honours the May 12th International Awareness Day for Myalgic Encephalomyelitis/Chronic Fatigue Syndrome and Fibromyalgia (ME/CFS & FM), and a portion of every ticket sale supports the ME/FM Society of BC.

Mannes School of Music's centennial culminates in Mannes' Centennial Celebration, a concert at Carnegie Hall honoring the school's rich history and the next 100 years ahead. This concert features live performances by past and present esteemed alumni, faculty, and students including Michel Camilo, Simone Dinnerstein, Frederica von Stade, Ricky Ian Gordon, the Orion Quartet and the Mannes Orchestra under the baton of music director David Hayes, and many more.

By day, Dr. James Garvin, Jr., M.D., Ph.D. works as a physician at the New York Presbyterian Columbia University Irving Medical Center.  On April 23, Dr. Garvin will set his stethoscope aside and turn to a different forum -- the operatic stage of the New Jersey Association of Verismo Opera's (Verismo Opera) AIDA at the Bergen Performing Arts Center (bergenPAC).  He will assume a new supernumerary (super) role acting as an Egyptian guard.

Bryant Park Corporation announces the schedule for performing arts series Bryant Park Presents. Now celebrating its second year, the series aims to be the most accessible venue in New York City to experience a wide range of extraordinary artists in a beautiful outdoor setting.

Music Director Xian Zhang and the New Jersey Symphony Orchestra present Schubert's “Great” Symphony and works by Sibelius and Mozart, May 11–14 in Newark, Princeton, Red Bank and New Brunswick. Violinist Jennifer Koh—Musical America's 2016 Instrumentalist of the Year—returns for Sibelius' Violin Concerto. The program opens with Mozart's Così fan tutte Overture.

Liudmyla Monastyrska is Abigaille, the warrior woman determined to rule empires, and Jamie Bartonis the heroic Fenena. Russell Thomas is Ismaele, nephew to the King of Jerusalem and Dmitry Belosselskiy is the stentorian voice of the oppressed Hebrew people.

The New Jersey Association of Verismo Opera, a nonprofit organization based in Bergen County, New Jersey, announces tenor Giovanni Simone of Fort Lee, New Jersey will perform the Messenger in the company's grand production of Giuseppe Verdi's classic work, AIDA, on April 23, 2017.  The opera will be performed at 3:00 p.m. at the Bergen Performing Arts Center, located at 30 North Van Brunt Street in Englewood, New Jersey. 

The legendary Plácido Domingo brings another new baritone role to the Met as the title king in Nabucco, under the baton of his longtime collaborator James Levine on GREAT PERFORMANCES AT THE MET Sunday, May 7 at 12 p.m.on PBS (check local listings). (In New York, THIRTEEN will air the opera at 12:30 p.m.)
