40 College Dance Programs Set for Dancewave's 'Dancing Through College' Event in NYC

Over 40 of the nation's top college dance programs are set to participate in Dancewave's (dancewave.org) upcoming nationwide event in NYC, Dancing Through College & Beyond 2015. Taking place on Sunday, October 18th from 8:30am–6pm at the 92nd Street Y Harkness Dance Center (1395 Lexington Ave.), high school students from all over the country can experience an exciting full day event exploring college dance programs and the chance to meet one on one with dance program chairs, renowned faculty & choreographers, alumni, and students from a range of U.S. colleges. In addition, the event offers the opportunity for dancers to audition for participating colleges, eliminating the prohibitive costs of traveling to each school. The day ends with a special Showcase Performance at 5:30pm with performances from the dance departments of Hofstra, Middlebury, Montclair, Pace & Temple Universities.

Now, director Scott Edmiston will re-fashion My Fair Lady, the delightful story of a down-on-her- luck London flower girl taken on as an 'experiment' by a chauvinistic speech therapist, into another Lyric Stage winner. Based on George Bernard Shaw's beloved play Pygmalion, My Fair Lady introduced the world to a treasure trove of classic tunes including 'I Could Have Danced All Night,' 'On the Street Where You Live,' 'The Rain in Spain,' and 'I've Grown Accustomed to Her Face.'

A challenging show for even a professional company, this community theatre tackles Pete Townshend's landmark piece with gusto and innovative staging by director Melissa Jo York-Tilley and co-choreographers Melanie Marie Gibson and Ahmad Maaty. Boasting some strong performances of the classic rock score, the production gets an “E” for effort.

In the wake of the 2012 school shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary in Newtown, Conn., and the failure of parents, schools, and health and judicial systems to prevent mass violence, new playwright and native Washingtonian Graziella Jackson has written After Eleven, which explores this critical social issue. The play premieres at the 2015 Capital Fringe Festival, with six performances at the Hyman M. Perlo Studio, Dance Place, 3225 8th Street in Northeast, Washington, D.C.

Physical Festival Chicago Sets Celebration of Physical Theater Program

Physical Festival Chicago announced today the full program for its second annual celebration of this energetic, imaginative and boundary-breaking form of theater. The following companies and artists will participate in this week-long event to be held July 7-12: Single Shoe Productions (UK, Portugal & USA), Walkabout Theater Company (Chicago), DeCollage (Spain) and David Gaines (Washington DC). The Festival will also feature a Scratch Night, a preview of what's next in the physical theater scene, and four professional Master Classes with the visiting artists at Columbia College Chicago, 916 S.
