BWW Review: AN AMERICAN IN PARIS at the Eccles is a Work of Art
by Tyler Hinton
- Oct 11, 2017
The national tour of AN AMERICAN IN PARIS at the Eccles Theater is a beautifully crafted work of art that celebrates art in many forms. Dance, music, and visual art play important roles in both the plot and the production of the show itself, which is a unique combination of a ballet, a dramatic play, and a musical.

BWW Review: AN AMERICAN IN PARIS Exudes Rhythm and Sparkle at the Pantages
by Don Grigware

Parisian charm is precious, incomparable. Even though the action of An American in Paris takes place in 1945 after World War II had taken its toll, it is still lively, colorful and full of breathtaking romantic excitement. Fans of the 1951 film with Gene Kelly and Leslie Caron will not be disappointed because the choreography of the live musical by director Christopher Wheeldon is magnetic as are the leading players Garen Scribner as Jerry Mulligan and Sara Esty as Lise Dassin, both ballet dancers. If you love great dancing, that is reason enough to see An American in Paris currently at the Hollywood Pantages through April 9.

BWW Review: AN AMERICAN IN PARIS at Music Hall at Fair Park - I Couldn't Ask For Anything More!
by Robin Bangert

'S wonderful. 'S marvelous. 'S absolutely freaking flawless! The audience was humming with excitement as the lights grew dim at the Music Hall at Fair Park on Wednesday night for the Dallas debut of 'An American in Paris'. Inspired by the Academy Award winning 1951 film and wonderfully reimagined for the stage in 2015 by director and choreographer Christopher Wheeldon, with the book by Craig Lucas and set to the fantastic music of George and Ira Gershwin, it was completely captivating from start to finish.

BWW Review: Gloriously Rendered AN AMERICAN IN PARIS at The Fox Theatre
by Chris Gibson
- Jan 23, 2017
The 1951 film, AN AMERICAN IN PARIS, was recently broadcast on Turner Classic Movies, and I had a chance to watch it before attending the recent musical adaptation that is currently playing the Fox Theatre. The film is a classic, and I'm happy to report that the new musical version is an excellent take on the story. Filled with wonderful "triple threat" (acting, dancing, singing) performances that do more than justice to the original work, this is an uplifting, amusing, and immensely entertaining production that I cannot recommend highly enough. The opportunity to hear such lush orchestrations of George Gershwin's (lyrics by Ira Gershwin) music, combined with some extraordinary dance sequences and a compelling story, is one that should not be missed. The 1951 film, AN AMERICAN IN PARIS, was recently broadcast on Turner Classic Movies, and I had a chance to watch it before attending the recent musical adaptation that is currently playing the Fox Theatre. The boldly refreshing new Broadway touring production of AN AMERICAN IN PARIS that is playing at Shea's Buffalo Theatre shows that classical dance and jazz can blend seamlessly.
