BWW Reviews: South Coast Rep Debuts Witty World Premiere Play OF GOOD STOCK

Filled with relatable humor, wit, and plenty of fiercely sarcastic dialogue and gasp-lite melodrama, OF GOOD STOCK explores the layered, often contentious relationship between a trio of sisters who have decided to gather together at their family's gorgeous ocean-side summer home for a little weekend reunion, with their respective beaus in tow. Written by playwright Melissa Ross, this world premiere production is currently on stage at Costa Mesa's Tony Award-winning South Coast Repertory through April 26, under the direction of Gaye Taylor Upchurch.

Davis McCallum, Artistic Director of the Hudson Valley Shakespeare Festival (HVSF), has finalized plans for the Company's 29th season with the announcement that Arabian Nights, written by Mary Zimmerman, adapted from The Book of the Thousand Nights and a Night, will run in repertory with Shakespeare's Winter's Tale, A Midsummer Night's Dream, and a limited run of An Illiad, by Lisa Peterson and Denis O'Hare.

This past year, a brand-new organization called The Kilroys solicited nominations from over 140 theatre professionals (primarily artistic directors and literary managers) for their favorite new plays by female-identified playwrights. In June they published The List -- the top 46 of these plays. Dry Land was one of the most recommended, and many playwrights Colt Coeur has collaborated with in the past were also on the list. In the spirit of continuing to champion gender parity in the theatre, we are hosting a Festival of Readings of plays by women during the run of Dry Land. The plays included are as follows:

As the 2014 season draws to an end, Davis McCallum, Artistic Director of the Hudson Valley Shakespeare Festival (HVSF) gave friends and fans something to look forward to when he announced the 2015 season at a special Sneak Peak event on Saturday evening. Noting that the pieces that he has chosen share in the deep belief in the magic of storytelling, McCallum announced that the 2015 productions will be The Winter's Tale, A Midsummer Night's Dream, An Iliad by Lisa Peterson and Dennis O'Hare, and a fourth, soon to be revealed production. 'Each of these pieces aims to transport the audience with the simplest and most powerful of theatrical means - language, wit, movement, commitment, and passion,' he told the assembled crowd.

Laura Penn, Executive Director of Stage Directors and Choreographers Workshop Foundation (SDCF), announced today that Megan E. Carter will be its new Director as of June 30. Founded in 1965, SDCF is the nation's only organization dedicated to training, nurturing, and supporting theatre directors and choreographers and advancing the crafts of stage direction and choreography.
