BroadwayWorld has just learned that Broadway director Jack Hofsiss passed away yesterday, September 13. He was 66 years old.

Virginia's Tony-Award winning Signature Theatre presents the world premiere of The Gulf by DC playwright Audrey Cefaly. ?Theater J begins the 2016-2017 season with the regional premiere of the rollicking, engaging, and thoughtful comedy, The Last Schwartz, written by Lilly Award Winner Deborah Zoe Laufer. It plays at Theater J September 7 through October 2, 2016 and kicks off the first season selected by new Artistic Director Adam Immerwahr.

As previously announced, iconic stage and screen actress and Academy Award and Tony Award nominee Kathleen Turner returns to Arena Stage at the Mead Center for American Theater to star in Joan Didion's one-woman drama The Year of Magical Thinking, adapted from her 2005 bestselling memoir of the same title.

Yale Repertory Theatre, celebrating 50 years of daring artists, bold choices, and adventurous audiences, presents the world premiere of Scenes from Court Life, or the whipping boy and his prince by Sarah Ruhl, directed by Mark Wing-Davey, September 30-October 22 at Yale University Theatre (222 York Street). Opening Night is Thursday, October 6.

Emmy Award winner and Golden Globe nominee Marg Helgenberger, known for her 12 seasons as Catherine Willows on CBS's CSI: Crime Scene Investigation, stars as Regina Giddens under veteran director Kyle Donnelly, who has directed more than 20 productions at Arena Stage. Arden Theatre Company opens its 29th season with Aaron Posner's STUPID f**kING BIRD, 'sort of' adapted from Anton Checkov's The Seagull. Posner, an Arden co-founder and former Artistic Director who has directed nearly 40 productions for the company, also directs his show for the first time. STUPID f**kING BIRD runs September 15 through October 16, 2016, on the F. Otto Haas Stage at 40 N. 2nd Street in Philadelphia.

Possum Point Players' affiliate, New Faces of Shakespeare present summer Shakespearean comedy under the direction of accomplished actor, director and teacher Shannon Parks. Formerly a resident of Washington, DC, Parks said this high-spirited production of 'Much Ado About Nothing' is set in the roaring twenties.

Renowned actor Derek Jacobi stars with actor/director Richard Clifford and the acclaimed early musicians of Washington DC's Folger Consort in the world premiere performances of MEASURE + DIDO, celebrating the 400th anniversary of William Shakespeare's legacy. Presented by NapaShakes and Folger Shakespeare Library, this extraordinary production combines dramatic readings of William Shakespeare's Measure for Measure with excerpts from Henry Purcell's chamber opera Dido and Aeneas to create a perfect depiction of the ecstasy and excesses of love. With a cast of 27 including Peter Becker (baritone), Molly Quinn (soprano), and Emily Noel (soprano), don't miss the first performances of this historic pairing of two monumental works, starring one of the world's most respected and beloved actors, before it moves to the Eisenhower Theater at Washington, DC's Kennedy Center in October.

DISTRICT MERCHANTS, Aaron Posner's new adaptation of Shakespeare's THE MERCHANT OF VENICE, explores the 'other-ness' of being outside the white male stations of power. Setting the work in post-Civil War Washington, D.C., the premiere takes a uniquely American look at race, religion, class and gender. DISTRICT MERCHANTS at the Folger Theatre is an important and compelling work that deftly balances humor among weightier, thought-provoking moments.

Lookingglass Theatre Company continues its 28th Season with Thaddeus and Slocum: A Vaudeville Adventure, written by Ensemble Member Kevin Douglas, and co-directed by Ensemble Member J. Nicole Brooks and Krissy Vanderwarker. Thaddeus and Slocum: A Vaudeville Adventure runs June 1 - August 14, 2016 at Lookingglass Theatre Company, located inside Chicago's historic Water Tower Water Works, 821 N. Michigan Ave. at Pearson. The Press Opening is Saturday, June 11, 2016 at 7:30 p.m.
