Over 2,000 Singers To Take Part In Big Sing California In Los Angeles 7/21

Over 2,000 singers will gather at Walt Disney Concert Hall on Saturday, July 21 to take part in the largest free group singing event in California history-Big Sing California. The event features a live concert by the full 100-voice Los Angeles Master Chorale that will perform from the stage with the 2,000-person audience singing along to selected works on the program. The concert will be conducted by composer Eric Whitacre, Grant Gershon, the Master Chorale's Kiki & David Gindler Artistic Director, and guest conductors Moira Smiley and Rollo Dilworth. Whitacre, who is currently the Master Chorale's Swan Family Artist-in-Residence-and who attracts a huge global audience-will also serve as the event's host.

Kent Tritle is Director of Cathedral Music and Organist at New York's Cathedral of St. John the Divine, the largest cathedral in the world; Music Director of the Oratorio Society of New York, the acclaimed 200-voice volunteer chorus; and Music Director of Musica Sacra, New York's longest continuously performing professional chorus. The 2018-19 season of “New York's choral conducting superstar” (Time Out New York) is marked by the expansion of the Oratorio Society's Carnegie Hall season from three to four concerts, which will include Kullervo, the rarely-performed symphonic poem by Sibelius, Szymanowski's Stabat Mater, and Verdi's Requiem.
Los Angeles Master Chorale Announces A $1 Million Gift From Kiki & David Gindler

The Los Angeles Master Chorale today announced that it will receive a $1 million gift from philanthropists Kiki and David Gindler. The pledge was announced at the annual meeting of the Master Chorale's Board of Directors held today at The Music Center where the choir is a founding resident company. The meeting was Mr. Gindler's last in his role as Chair of the Board, a position he has held for two three-year terms, the maximum term allowed.

The Sarasota Concert Association's free Music Matinees series continues its 2017-2018 season with State College of Florida Chamber Choir, conducted by Melodie Dickerson, Wednesday, March 28, noon, in the Grand Foyer at the Van Wezel Performing Art Hall in Sarasota. The ensemble is known for performing Renaissance madrigals, cutting-edge choral works, contemporary jazz tunes and traditional choral literature. This concert's program includes a 13th-century chant, a 15th-century Spanish folk song, and songs by Jean Berger, Erik Esenvalds, Gyorgy Orban and more. The concert is free and open to the public.
