Hollywood takes center stage this weekend with the 87th annual Academy Awards, but this year's Oscars have a decidedly Broadway vibe to them. Not only will the star-studded event be hosted by Tony and Emmy-winner Neil Patrick Harris, but theatre and movie-musical producers Neil Meron and Craig Zadan are back at the helm for the third straight year.

Film Independent, the nonprofit arts organization that produces the Spirit Awards, Los Angeles Film Festival and Film Independent at LACMA, handed out top honors to Birdman or (The Unexpected Virtue of Ignorance), Boyhood, Whiplash and Nightcrawler at this afternoon's 30th Film Independent Spirit Awards.

It's that time of year again! Hollywood heavyweights are flocking to the Dolby Theatre this afternoon to attend the 87th Annual Academy Awards. Like the Golden Globes, presented earlier this year, the roster of nominees are primarily made up of film stars (well, duh!) more so than stage actors, but no fear - there are a considerable amount of this year's candidates with strong theatrical credits.

The 87th Oscars will be held TONIGHT, Sunday, February 22, 2015, at the Dolby Theatre® at Hollywood & Highland Center® in Hollywood, and will be televised live on the ABC Television Network at 7 p.m., ET/4 p.m., PT. Tonight, SATURDAY NIGHT LIVE is holding a one night only 40th anniversary special. It is a 3 and 1/2 hour LIVE special taking place at 8/7c on NBC, with the red carpet pre-show beginning at 7/6c. Emma Stone will play only eight more performances of "Sally Bowles" in Roundabout Theatre Company's (Todd Haimes, Artistic Director) CABARET. After Stone's final performance on February 15, 2015, Sienna Miller ("American Sniper," After Miss Julie) will take over the role of "Sally Bowles" opposite Alan Cumming in the seedy Kit Kat Klub at Studio 54, beginning February 17, 2015.

MCC Theater presents the New York premiere of Jennifer Haley's The Nether directed by Anne Kaufman. Ben Rosenfield, memorably of the final two seasons of 'Boardwalk Empire,' and rising talent Sophia Anne Caruso will take on the roles of Woodnut and Iris, respectively. As previously announced, The Nether will also star 'Nurse Jackie' Emmy Award winner Merritt Wever, New York theater veteran Peter Friedman and Tony Award winner Frank Wood.
