The 2014 Adelaide Festival presents a program of outstanding music, theatre and dance events, a stellar literary festival and momentous visual arts exhibitions. Eat, Pray, Love author Elizabeth Gilbert's new novel, The Signature of All Things, is on the shortlist for this year's £30,000 Wellcome book prize. Her book, about botany and exploration, is competing against more straightforwardly scientific titles, since the Wellcome prize can be awarded to fiction or non-fiction titles. Gilbert's book is the only novel to be shortlisted for the award. Only one fiction novel has ever won this prize before, Alice LaPlante's Turn of Mind in 2011. The winner will be announced on April 29th.

TEDxLancaster organizers Laura Kendall and Harvey Owen are planning the first TEDxLancaster conference at the Ware Center of Millersville University on May 3rd, 2014. The TED TALKS EDUCATION one-hour program will feature a mix of teachers and education advocates delivering short, high-impact talks on the theme of teaching and learning. The special was taped before a live audience on April 4, 2013 in the BAM Harvey Lichtenstein Theater of New York's Brooklyn Academy Of Music, and will air nationally on PBS tonight, May 7, 2013 at 10:00 p.m. EST.
