The National New Play Network (NNPN), the country's alliance of non-profit theaters that champions the development, production, and continued life of new plays, will produce six new plays in staged reading format at its National Showcase of New Plays, hosted December 3-5 in Denver by Curious Theatre Company. A committee of artistic, managing and literary leaders from across the country selected plays by Megan Breen, Jack Canfora, Dan Dietz, Meridith Friedman, A. Rey Pamatmat, and Stephen Sachs for the eighth annual showcase.

Today, the Fox Theatre Institute partners with other historic theatres to restore, educate and collaborate within their communities. Although Broadway has a history of great artistic success from adapting existing sources for the musical stage (My Fair Lady, Show Boat, Gypsy...) the past decade's ever-increasing trend of turning popular films, novels that inspired popular films and songwriter's catalogues into musicals has, in many minds, elevated the status of the completely original musical; particularly original musicals by American authors.

David Sedaris' THE SANTALAND DIARIES is coming to PlayhouseSquare's intimate 14th Street Theatre this holiday season. The Santaland Diaries, the retelling of best-selling author David Sedaris' unique experience in the throes of the holidays, will be produced by Cleveland Public Theatre in 14th Street Theatre, November 26 through December 19, 2010.

Chris Jones reports in the Chicago Tribune that the Whoopi Goldberg-produced White Noise may be getting its pre-Broadway try-out in Chicago sometime in the very near future. White Noise director Sergio Trujillo tells the Tribune: 'I think we're going to get it up in Chicago...Soon.'
