In its 15th season, Ensemble Connect continues its fellowship program with concerts at Carnegie Hall and The Juilliard School, as well as residencies and performances at The Pocantico Center of the Rockefeller Brothers Fund, Skidmore College, and in schools and community venues throughout New York City.

On Thursday, November 4, 2021, violinist Pauline Kim Harris will feature the latest iterations of her Chaconne Project in two sets at Arts on Site (12 St. Marks Pl.). In the 6:30pm set, she will perform solo works from her new album Wild at Heart in celebration of its October 22 release on Sono Luminus.

The Music Critics Association of North America (MCANA) is pleased to announce that its 2021 Award for BEST NEW OPERA—a major recognition given annually by an Awards Committee of distinguished music critics—goes to composers Du Yun and Raven Chacon and librettists Aja Couchois Duncan and Douglas Kearney for SWEET LAND.

Brooklyn performance and civic space JACK announces concerts in unusual spaces by acclaimed experimental composer and musician Lea Bertucci. The first, on July 31, involves an afternoon of concerts on the handball courts at Riis Park Beach. The second, on August 14, is a performance in the DUMBO Archway underneath the Manhattan Bridge.

LA Opera's newest Digital Short, The Zolle Suite, is now available to watch online. The new short from Pulitzer Prize-winning composer Du Yun brings three chapters of her 2005 opera Zolle to the digital screen, produced by Ron Diamond of Acme Filmworks. 

Throughout the 2020/21 season, LA Opera's series of Digital Shorts has showcased an astonishingly diverse range of filmmaking, from the hyper-theatricality of The Five Moons of Lorca to the suspense of The West is a Land of Infinite Beginnings, from the spare documentary gravity of Death to the sumptuous visuals of Brown Sounds. The Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra has announced that Louis Langrée will  not seek to renew his contract beyond the conclusion of the 2023-24 season, his eleventh as the Orchestra's Music Director.

This new initiative allows Professional Company Members to receive up to $10,000 to subsidize as much as 50 percent of the fee of a woman stage director or conductor who is contracted for the first time by the company.

OPERA America has announced the selection of Douglas Kearney as  the inaugural recipient of the Campbell Opera Librettist Prize. Kearney will receive a $7,000 award  to support his creative and career development. Conceived and funded by acclaimed librettist and  lyricist Mark Campbell, the Prize is the first award in American opera that specifically recognizes the work of  the opera librettist. 

The New York Opera Fest will celebrate its sixth season with both virtual and in-person performances by 20+ local, New York City-based opera companies. Presented by the New York Opera Alliance, with support from OPERA America, this annual festival runs for two months May-June 2021 starting with a special kick-off event April 29th.

The board of directors of the Newport Music Festival has appointed Gillian Friedman Fox as the organization's new executive director. During her recent and much-celebrated tenure at the Dallas Symphony Orchestra, Fox received critical acclaim for curating innovative and thought-provoking classical music performances and programs.

LA Opera announced today that it is postponing, reimagining or canceling all currently scheduled in-person programming for the remainder of the 2020/21 season due to concerns for artist and patron safety regarding COVID-19. Recent news regarding the development of vaccines has reinspired confidence in the company's ability to return to normal production for the 2021/22 season, which will be a combination of rescheduled and new programming.
