SISTER ACT Chosen for President Obama's Broadway Re-Election Fundraiser, 6/23

According to the NY Times, President Barack Obama has chosen SISTER ACT for his first Broadway fundraiser of his re-election campaign. The event, which will be held on June 23, will be hosted by producer Whoopi Goldberg. Tickets for the special performance range from $250 to $10,000 (the latter of which includes a photoshoot with the President).

Transport Group Theatre Company, the winner of a special Drama Desk Award and two OBIE Awards, began previews for the New York premiere of Lysistrata Jones, a new musical with a book by Douglas Carter Beane, music and lyrics by Lewis Flinn, and directed and choreographed by Dan Knechtges on Sunday May 15 on the basketball court of the Judson Memorial Church Gymnasium. The show officially opens on Sunday, June 5.

Producers Whoopi Goldberg and Stage Entertainment have announced that the Tony-nominated Broadway musical SISTER ACT will launch a North American tour at Toronto's Canon Theatre in the fall of 2012. Additional cities, dates and casting will be announced at a later date. The North American tour of SISTER ACT will be booked by The Road Company.
