Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts announced today its second class of Emerging Artists, recognizing diverse talents, from a visionary filmmaker to world-class musicians to a singer-songwriter currently starring on Broadway.

Lyric Opera of Chicago and Lyric Unlimited are proud to present the Chicago premiere of a jazz-infused operatic event, Charlie Parker's YARDBIRD. Directed by Ron Daniels, this 90-minute chamber opera by Daniel Schnyder and Bridgette A. Wimberly explores the extraordinary life of legendary jazz saxophonistCharlie Parker.

Musician Barbara Carroll has passed away at age 92. Barbara was an elegant jazz pianist, composer and vocalist, long recognized as one of the premier players of swinging jazz piano and expressive vocals. She can be heard on numerous recordings including 2016 Barbara Carroll Plays at Birdland (Birdland Records).

Jack Kleinsinger's Highlights In Jazz, New York's longest running jazz concert series, proudly announces the schedule for its 45th season featuring four monthly star studded Today night concerts taking place at the Tribeca Performing Arts Center of Borough Manhattan Community College, 199 Chambers Street, NYC.

Making its annual Kennedy Center appearance, the famed Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater returns to the Opera House stage with seven performances, February 7-12. Led by Artistic Director Robert Battle, the Company's performances include a company premiere, four D.C. debuts, two new productions, and a total of 11 works by a range of distinct choreographers.

As Black History Month launches, Ailey continues to inspire, enlighten and educate all people with national tours by Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater and Ailey II, classes for aspiring dancers and the general public, and the launch of a new Arts In Education residency program for elementary school students. 

This February at The Metropolitan Museum of Art, MetLiveArts includes The Lincoln Family Album, the male vocal quintet, Profeti della Quinta, Gerald Clayton Quartet and Quartet in Residence, PUBLIQuartet, returns to The Met with a program exploring, What is "American music"? with Jessie Montgomery's Banner. 

March brings a new collection of outstanding artists in jazz for its Special Engagement Series.  In addition to its weekly shows featuring emerging and veteran jazz artists every Friday and Saturday nights, Jam sessions on Sunday evenings and packed First Fridays, the top names in jazz are arriving to perform at the noted jazz club in downtown Phoenix.  

In the first ever retrospective of the life and legacy of one of the most important figures in Latin Jazz, The Hostos Center for the Arts and Culture announces "Tito Puente: A Fifty-Year Retrospective of 'El Rey,' a multi-day, in-depth examination of his career through concerts, panels, film, dance, and more.

Pianist, composer, and bandleader, Randy Weston comes to The Nash to join Lewis Nash for an unforgettable afternoon of jazz on Sunday February 19 at 2:00 pm. The Nash is located at 110 Roosevelt St, on the corner of 1st and Roosevelt in downtown Phoenix.

The National Museum of African American History and Culture is the only national museum devoted exclusively to the documentation of African American life, history, and culture. It was established by Act of Congress in 2003, following decades of efforts to promote and highlight the contributions of African Americans. To date, the Museum has collected more than 36,000 artifacts and nearly 100,000 individuals have become charter members. The Museum opened to the public on September 24, 2016, as the 19th and newest museum of the Smithsonian Institution.
