Jacob's Pillow Announces 80th Anniversary Season

January 2012 will kick off the momentous 80th Anniversary of Jacob’s Pillow Dance Festival, a National Historic Landmark, National Medal of Arts honoree, and America’s longest-running international dance festival.

On Monday, May 2, 2011 The New York Pops' marks its 28th birthday with Celebrate Hope, a grand gala evening celebrating the legacy of late actor and comedian Bob Hope and honoring decades of support by Interpublic Group. The event begins at 7:00 PM with a concert at Carnegie Hall featuring a special lineup of concert artists - including Brooke Shields, Cheyenne Jackson, Christine Ebersole, Kelli O'Hara, Maurice Hines, Cartier Williams and special guest Angela Lansbury - under the baton of Music Director Steven Reineke. The New York Pops will also be joined on stage by the singers of The Camp Broadway Kids and the West Point Glee Club. Following the concert, a black tie dinner and dance will be held at the luxurious Plaza Hotel.

Jacob's Pillow Dance, international arts presenter and home of America's longest-running dance festival, now offers a curated online selection of informative and entertaining PillowTalks. Based in Becket, Mass., Jacob's Pillow hosts more than 160 free pre-show talks, post-show interviews, and hour-long PillowTalks during its annual Festival. PillowTalks are a series of hour-long moderated discussions with choreographers, performers, historians, filmmakers, and experts in the arts and related fields.

In celebration of National Tap Dance Day, Jacob's Pillow announces multiple opportunities to experience tap dance during Festival 2010, ranging from free public performances to book signings. All of the events below are free and open to the public.

Jacob's Pillow Presents First-Ever Tap Program at Jacob's Pillow School, 7/10

Saxophonist Charles Neville, bassist George Kaye, and singer Moonlight Davis will join artist faculty Dianne Walker, Harold Kromer, and music director Paul Arslanian for The School at Jacob's Pillow's first ever Tap Program. In addition to rigorous movement training, the dancers of the professional advancement Tap Program will also work with these acclaimed musicians and will offer two free public showings during their time at The School at Jacob's Pillow. Both free public showings on July 3 and 10 will feature live music.

In a return engagement at Jacob's Pillow, the preeminent Indian dancer, Shantala Shivalingappa, will perform a U.S. premiere program accompanied live by master musicians. Shivalingappa captivates audiences with the precise storytelling embodied in her interpretation of the Kuchipudi form of classical Indian dance.

Jacob's Pillow Announces 2010 Season

Jacob's Pillow announces its 2010 full season calendar, including more than 200 free performances, talks, photography exhibits, tours, and events. Free event highlights include the Blake's Barn exhibit Lois Greenfield: Imagined Moments, featuring Greenfield's signature dance photography, and 'Let's Dance!' a new community event on July 4 with free dance classes and workshops for teens and adults. PillowTalks, held Thursdays at 5pm and Saturdays at 4pm, include Virginia Johnson, recently named Artistic Director of Dance Theatre of Harlem (June 24), choreographer/director Bill T. Jones (July 22), and the return of Pulitzer Prize winner Jules Feiffer (July 31). Inside/Out performance highlights include the all-female hip-hop group Decadancetheatre (July 7), the dancers of The School at Jacob's Pillow's first ever Tap Program (July 10), alumnus of The School at Jacob's Pillow and Artistic Director of his own ensemble, Avi Scher (July 23), and ¡Flamenco Revolución! (August 27).
