The Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation (GLAAD), the nation's lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) media advocacy and anti-defamation organization, announced today the nominees for its 22nd Annual GLAAD Media Awards. By recognizing and honoring media for outstanding images of the LGBT community, the GLAAD Media Awards serve as a benchmark for the media industry and complement GLAAD's work to bring LGBT images and stories to Americans.

The George Foster Peabody Awards' 70th annual search for excellence in electronic media has begun. More than 100,000 call for entries alerts have been mailed worldwide, supplemented by advertising in media-industry publications. Original broadcast, cablecast and webcast programs presented in the calendar year 2010 are eligible. The entry deadline is Friday, Jan. 14. Entrants may apply online at www.peabody.uga.edu.

As reported previously, next month's Stand Up to Cancer TV special will feature several celebrity guests, including cancer survivors Christina Applegate and Maura Tierney. Accordig to Variety, an array of other Hollywood stars have signed on for the fundraiser, including: George Clooney, Gwyneth Paltrow, Will Smith, Denzel Washington, Billy Joe Armstrong, and Renee Zellweger.

This week, we are following in the steps of SOUND OFF and showcasing some other productions of the Rodgers & Hammerstein musical that was just so rapturously received in both it's Tony-winning 2008 Broadway revival but also Wednesday night's Live From Lincoln Center broadcast of the final performance starring Kelli O'Hara and Tony-Award-winner Paulo Szot. It was a night beyond compare as far as live theatrical filmings go, and included will be a taste - as well as the tropical sights and sounds of some other iterations of the legendary musical. The Stand Up To Cancer (SU2C) television event is set to air live and commercial-free on FOX, September 10, 2010, at 8 p.m. EST & PST / 7 p.m. CST. Joining ABC, CBS and NBC, FOX will donate one hour of live simultaneous commercial-free primetime for the nationally televised September 10th fundraising special, to be broadcast from Los Angeles. Additionally, VH1, HBO Latino, TV One and G4 have agreed to air the SU2C event. They join HBO, Discovery Health, E!, MLB Network and The Style Network for an historic evening to raise much-needed funds for groundbreaking cancer research.

The 2010 Summer Gala will honor Lincoln Center Theater Executive Producer and former Public Theater Associate Producer Bernard Gersten and Bank of America. The Gala will be held on Monday, June 21 at the Delacorte Theater in Central Park and will include a dinner under the stars, a performance of The Merchant of Venice featuring Al Pacino as Shylock and a party afterward at the Belvedere Castle.

On Thursday, June 10, the AFI honored Mike Nichols with their Life Achievement Award at Sony Studios in Los Angeles, CA. Nichols, who directed Broadway's Tony-winning Spamalot, among others, is one of only twelve people to have won an EGOT, all the major American entertainment awards: an Emmy, Grammy, Oscar, and Tony Award. In 2001, he was awarded the National Medal of Arts.
