Theater for the New City, Crystal Field, Executive Director, and The After Dinner Opera Company present two new American operatic musical adaptations from classical works, Seymour Barab's operatic parody Out the Window based upon Georges Feydeux's farce 'Par La Fenetre;' and Rappaccini's Daughter, based on Nathaniel Hawthorne's gothic short story, with libretto by Linsey Abrams and music by Michael Cohen. Theater for the New City, Crystal Field, Executive Director presents Nicholas Nickleby, A New Musical based on the classic Charles Dickens novel with book by Robert Sickinger, music and lyrics by Alaric Jans. Performances will be staged Off-Broadway at the Joyce and Seward Johnson Theater at Theater for the New City, 155 First Avenue (bet. 9th and 10th Streets), New York, NY 10003 from April 17-May 5, 2014.

Phoebe Legere, the renowned singer, author, composer and multi-format artist, has written a full-length musical comedy, 'Shakespeare and Elizabeth I: The Reality Show.' The musical is about love, war, espionage and creative genius, and includes music written by Legere, who heads the cast of ten as Queen Elizabeth I. Director David Zen Mansley plays the Bard and trumpeter Rhys Tivey plays Robert Dudley, 1st Earl of Leicester, the Queen's noble heartthrob. Theater for the New City, 155 First Ave., will present this world premiere tonight, November 29 to December 15.

Theater for the New City, Crystal Field, Executive Director, has announced that the world premiere of Tom Attea's new play, BENEDICTUS, written two years ago, about a pope who resigns, will open on May 30th and run until June 16, 2013, at Theater for the New City (155 First Avenue). SIREN'S HEART - Norma Jean & Marilyn in Purgatory, presented by Primal Scenes Productions, continues the seventh month of its open run in February, with one performance a week, Saturdays at 5pm. SIREN'S HEART, which opened on August 5, 2012, 50 years to the day that Marilyn Monroe died, is directed by Lissa Moira. This one-woman Off-Broadway play with music, written & composed by Walt Stepp, stars Louisa Bradshaw, with Gregory Nissen as Musical Director & Arranger & Don Garverick as Choreographer. Following two successful Off-Off Broadway runs this past year (2011), SIREN'S HEART - Norma Jean & Marilyn in Purgatory ~ Norma Jean Sings Songs Marilyn Never Sang, will begin performances today, August 5th at 2pm at Actors Temple Theatre. The producer, ASCOLS, LLC, have set the opening for 7pm, August 5th (that same night), 50 years to the day, that Marilyn Monroe died.

The playwright is an award-winning author whose plays usually confront difficult questions of Jewish history with absurdist logic. This is his fourth production at Theater for the New City and his first time directing his own work.
