George Street Playhouse has announced full casting for New Year's Eve a world premiere from the pen of ARTHUR LAURENTS. George Street Playhouse Artistic Director DAVID SAINT will direct a starry cast comprised of WALTER BELENKY, KEITH CARRADINE, PETER FRECHETTE, MARLO THOMAS and NATASHA GREGSON WAGNER. New Year's Eve marks the ninth collaboration between Saint and Laurents at the New Brunswick Playhouse, and the return engagement of Ms. Thomas, who starred in Elaine May's Roger is Dead last season.

Sleepwalkers Theatre closes its second season of progressive new works with the premiere of THE SHORT AND HAPPY LIFE by Ryan Michael Teller. Contrary to reports by the New York Post last week, Mel Brooks has recently stated that he will NOT be shutting down his film company Brooksfilms. Brooks told the Hollywood Reporter that 'I'm not quitting. Brooksfilms is still here and will be going on for awhile. I'm not at all slowing down and nobody has told me to stop'.

According to the 'Page Six' section of the NY Post, Mel Brooks is closing the curtain on his film company, Brooksfilms which he started in 1980. After his popular comedies started making their way onto the big screen, Brooks started the company so his future films would not be branded with the title 'A Mel Brooks Film' and be automatically categorized into farces. The first film the company launched was 'The Elephant Man' and later produced more hits such as 'Space Balls.'

The New Mel Brooks Musical Young Frankenstein, a new musical comedy from the creative team of the 12-time Tony Award winning smash The Producers, will open on Broadway November 8th 2007 at the Hilton Theatre (213 W 42nd St). As I walk into the dark and slightly unsettling North London pub I scan the room for the type of person who'd play the role of 'The Elephant Man'. Marc Pickering is the actor I'm here to meet, but the grey hair atop the balding heads around me suggest he's upstairs rehearsing. With less than two weeks before the play hits the West End, it's not surprising the cast are busy. The story of the severely deformed John Merrick is a well known one and director Bruce Guthrie and his cast have a challenge ahead of them.
