Nominations in 27 competitive categories for the American Theatre Wing's 63rd Annual Antoinette Perry 'Tony' Awards were announced by Tony Award Winners Cynthia Nixon and Lin-Manuel Miranda from the New York Public Library for the Performing Arts at Lincoln Center.

The 75th Annual Drama League Awards Ceremony and Luncheon took place on Friday, May 15, 2009 in the Grand Ballroom of the Marriott Marquis Hotel in Times Square (1535 Broadway at 46th Street). The event was co-hosted by Jeremy Irons (Impressionism) and Cynthia Nixon (Distracted).

Josefina Scaglione is starring as 'Maria' in the 2009 revival of West Side Story. The 21 year old Scaglione is a trained opera singer and has been in a production of Hairspray. She was set to portray Christine Daae in a production of The Phantom of the Opera in Argentina but had to give that lead up for her coveted casting in West Side Story. The story of how her YouTube video won her an audition and then the lead in Arthur Laurents's revival of West Side Story is already on its way to becoming Broadway legend.

Christopher Sieber is currently starring as 'Lord Farquaad' in Shrek The Musical. Sieber steals scene after scene after scene as the diminutive and deliciously dastardly 'Farquaad', a role he has helped shape since the very first Shrek workshop.

The May 29th edition welcomed special guest, Guys and Dolls star, model and actor Nick Adams.

Beginning performances on May 30, is Into the Hazard [Henry 5], a new play adapted and directed by Jessica Bauman. Adapted from William Shakespeare's 'Henry V,' this production will take place Saturday, May 30 through Saturday, June 20. Official opening set for Thursday, June 4 @ 7:00 PM.

After a 48 year absence, Roundabout Theatre Company (Todd Haimes, Artistic Director) will present the first new Broadway production of Bye Bye Birdie as the inaugural production of the new Henry Miller's Theatre (124 West 43rd Street) beginning Thursday, September 10th, 2009 with an official opening on Thursday, October 15th, 2009. This will be a limited engagement through January 10th, 2010.

As playwright Matthew Lombardo continues to develop the upcoming Arena Stage production of Looped starring four-time Emmy Award-winning Valerie Harper (Rhoda on The Mary Tyler Moore Show) as Tallulah Bankhead, a casting change has taken place. Jay Goede, known for his work on Broadway in Angels in America, A Year with Frog and Toad and Sex and Longing, will now play opposite Harper in the pre-Broadway staging, directed by Rob Ruggiero at Arena Stage at the Lincoln Theatre May 29 through June 28, 2009. Gregory Jbara is a 2009 Tony Award nominee for Best Performance by a Featured Actor in a Musical for his emotional and inspired work in Billy Elliot the Musical. This is Gregory Jbara's first Tony nomination. He originated the role of André Thirbault in Dirty Rotten Scoundrels and has performed on Broadway in Victor/Victoria and the 1994 revival of Damn Yankees!

Variety is reporting that Sandra Oh, Giancarlo Esposito and Jon Tenney will join Aaron Eckhart, Tammy Blanchard, Oscar winner Dianne Wiest, Miles Teller and Nicole Kidman in the big screen adaptation of David Lindsay-Abaire's Broadway play 'Rabbit Hole.'

Roundabout Theatre Company (Todd Haimes, Artistic Director) is pleased to announce a second one-week extension of the New York premiere production of Distracted, by Lisa Loomer, directed by Mark Brokaw. Distracted opened last night, March 4th, and has been extended again to Sunday, May 17th, 2009 at the Laura Pels Theatre at the Harold and Miriam Steinberg Center for Theatre (111 West 46th Street).
