Salty Brine proudly announces encore performances of He's So Unusual as part of Salty Brine's Spectacular Living Record Collection Cabaret. Salty Brine's Spectacular Living Record Collection Cabaret, which performs on Wednesdays as part of Brine's residency at The Red Room (85 E. 4th St.), explores a different iconic album each month in a live cabaret setting. That you're going to have a wonderful time at Kinky Boots is something I don't have to tell you. If you're a theatergoer with a pulse, you'll have heard about the musical's great success (six Tonys, two-and-a-half years on Broadway). And you'll probably know that it was crafted from a movie that was itself all but a perfect musical, but for the absence of dedicated songs. You'll also know that Kinky Boots' book is by Harvey Fierstein and the songs by Cyndi Lauper. With credentials like that, it would be inconceivable that the result could be other than bliss. All the rest is simply a bunch of details.

Cafe Carlyle is pleased to welcome back Alexa Ray Joel for a two-week engagement, October 20-31. Reviewing a previous engagement at the Cafe, The New York Times called Joel, daughter of music legend Billy Joel and supermodel Christie Brinkley, "a singer following her own heart," adding, "Her original work… is firmly grounded in a pop tradition in which streams converge, from gospel to Tin Pan Alley. The songs are bluntly melodic, lyrically direct and catchy." Since she was 15, Joel has been writing complete songs and complementing those songs with piano accompaniment, and writing poetry. At Cafe Carlyle, Alexa Ray Joel will perform original material in addition to giving her signature style to a set of popular songs. She'll be accompanied by Carmine Giglio on piano.

When choreographer Heidi Duckler premieres the first episode of her four-part Dance Telenovela in Los Angeles next week, her core company dancers will be in great musical hands. Violinist Lili Haydn and pianist Bill Goldstein will join Duckler's dancers for an improvised collaboration. The virtuoso duo recently released a completely improvised album.
