In June 2013 two musicals went head to head in the best musical category at the Tony Awards. One would win but both would leave their mark in the musical theatre industry as being truly special shows. Kinky Boots and Matilda are currently playing a block away from each other in Melbourne and moving audiences in their own unique way. Last night it was Kinky Boots' turn, in an opening night extravaganza, which not only lived up to its Tony Award winning billing but smashed it out of the ballpark. There is nothing particularly unique about the shows storyline, based on the 2005 film, but it has every successful ingredient of major Broadway successes before it and then throws in a truckload of glitter and fun to leave audiences feeling euphoric. Last nights opening night audience started leaping to their feet early on in the show after Land of Lola and remained there at the shows conclusion. It what was the most deserved standing ovation.

Just in time for the weekend, Kinky Boots Australia has released a new video titled 'Angels,' which features several of Lola's Angels and their respective drag names, all leading up to Lola herself. Scored by Little Mix's 'Salute,' it's sure to put you in a good mood. Check out the video below!

After originating the role on the West End, Killian Donnelly is headed across the pond to lead the Broadway company of Kinky Boots as Charlie Price. First reported by journalist Baz Bamigboye, and confirmed by the actor via Twitter, Donnelly will take over from Aaron C. Finley on December 6th, and is expected to stay for a six-month run through late May.

Paper Mill Playhouse has announced casting for North American premiere of the hit new musical The Bodyguard based on the Warner Bros. film written by Lawrence Kasdan, with book by Alexander Dinelaris (Birdman), directed by Thea Sharrock (Equus) and with choreography by Karen Bruce (Strictly Come Dancing).

On October 14 and 15, Prospect Theater will be filled with the joyous sounds of a live big band, and 80s songs that defined your life. Take On Me will send audiences back to the 1950's New Orleans in this musical revue featuring four couples struggling with the highs and lows of love! All told with 80's pop hit, the four couples promise a swinging good time "all night long."

Hennepin Theatre Trust has announced that the U.S. National tour of the hit musical, THE BODYGUARD, launches in Minneapolis as part of the 2016-2017 Bank of America Broadway on Hennepin Season Jan. 10-15, 2017 at the historic Orpheum Theatre.

Kinky Boots, now in its second successful year in London's West End, has won the London Lifestyle Award for Theatre Show of the Year. The awards celebrate the best of the 'lifestyle industry', with 20 awards, 15 being voted for by the public, going to talented individuals and enterprises that help make London such an amazing  city.

On Wednesday, Oct. 26, more than 2,000 music makers will visit their local legislator's office as part of The Recording Academy's annual GRAMMYs in My District event - music's largest grassroots movement. This advocacy initiative allows Recording Academy members to address important creators' rights issues directly with their respective members of Congress, from copyright review to the impact of digital services on music makers.

The Orpheum Theatre Group is delighted to announce that the U.S. National tour of the hit musical THE BODYGUARD, will play the historic Orpheum Theatre from January 24th to January 29th. Tickets will go on sale Friday, November 11th at 10 AM.
