San Francisco Opera presents the world premiere of Chinese-American composer Bright Sheng's Dream of the Red Chamber, with a libretto by the composer and David Henry Hwang, in six performances from September 10-29, 2016. Commissioned by San Francisco Opera, the work is a co-production with the Hong Kong Arts Festival and will be performed March 17-18, 2017 at the Grand Theatre in the Hong Kong Cultural Centre as part of its 45th annual festival. Based on one of the quintessential works of world literature, Sheng and Hwang's opera explores the characters at the heart of Chinese author Cao Xueqin's 18th-century novel and communicates their story as a vivid musical and theatrical experience.

Quintessence Theatre, Philadelphia's only all-classical repertory theatre, announces its seventh season of progressive classics. Season 2016-2017 includes MOTHER COURAGE AND HER CHILDREN in the fall, a world premiere family holiday classic WILDE TALES, a rotating repertory: LOVE'S LABOR'S LOST and THE BROKEN HEART in the spring, and UNCLE VANYA to close the season in the summer.

Quintessence Theatre Group has announced the extension of its celebrated Devil and Saints Repertory: SAINT JOAN and DOCTOR FAUSTUS, performed in rotating repertory now through May 1.

The Martin E. Segal Theatre Center, located at The Graduate Center, City University of New York, announces its Spring 2016 season of public programs. The season successfully launched with The Second Annual Segal Center Film Festival on Theatre and Performance (February 25 + 26), a yearly event that celebrates the themes of theatre and performance on the screen. The season continues with free public programs throughout the fall and winter, featuring contemporary theatre and performing artists from around the world.

Welcome to 2016 via 1950 at The Joyce Theater, February 9-14, when a series of the late choreographer's groundbreaking works-'Tensile Involvement,' 'Gallery,' 'Mechanical Organ III,' and 'Crucible' command the stage courtesy of the Ririe-Woodbury Dance Company, the repository of 'Nik's' greatest hits.
