Set in a stylized Los Angeles, A GLIMPSE INSIDE THE MIND OF CHARLES SWAN III is a playful comedy of lost love, friendship, revenge fantasies, and Brandy Alexanders. Charles (Charlie Sheen) is a successful graphic designer whose fame, money and charm have provided him with a seemingly perfect life. When his true love, a perplexing beauty named Ivana, suddenly breaks off their relationship, Charles' life falls apart, and he swirls into a downward spiral of doubt, confusion and reflection. With the support of his loyal intimates-Kirby (Jason Schwartzman), Saul (Bill Murray), and his sister, Izzy (Patricia Arquette)-he begins the hard road of self-evaluation to come to terms with a life without Ivana. The film begs the question: Is it possible to love and hate someone at the same time?

Humor can cross cultural barriers, even when unintended. In a new book, Francophiles David and Jill Grossvogel highlight some of the snippets they have collected during annual visits to France of the differences between the French and American cultures. Although these accounts exaggerate those differences, the caricatures reveal truths about how the two cultures perceive each other and the often-humorous exchanges that can result.

The 2012 American Film Market (AFM), set for October 31-November 7 in Santa Monica will screen more than 420 motion pictures, including 77 world premieres and 306 market premieres, for thousands of film buyers and industry professionals from more than 70 countries. Houston's High School for the Performing and Visual Arts (HSPVA) rigorously trains their theatre students in a way that prepares them to work in the professional theatrical world. It nurtures both individual and ensemble creativity and exploration, while allowing the students to dedicate themselves to the mastery of their craft. With that philosophy in mind, the school is programming Richard Adler, Jerry Ross, George Abbot, and Richard Bissell's 1954 hit musical THE PAJAMA GAME for their 2012 All School Musical. Maintaining the integrity of the original work, HSPVA is producing the full two-act show, including the Act II ballet, with minimal minor cuts.

Houston's Theatre Under the Stars (TUTS) is offering James A. Rocco and David Armstrong's patriotic and biographical YANKEE DOODLE DANDY as its 45th FREE summer musical at Miller Outdoor Theatre. The entertaining show has a score composed of George M. Cohan's best known numbers and additional music and lyrics written by Albert Evans. YANKEE DOODLE DANDY is more-or-less an illustrated lecture on George M. Cohan's life-more a revue than musical. A dynamic showbiz saga, Yankee Doodle Dandy offers an intimate portrayal of the trials and tribulations of "the man who owned Broadway."

Theatre Under The Stars (TUTS) just announced the cast of The Best Little Whorehouse In Texas, running June 5 - 17 at the Hobby Center for The Performing Arts. It's all big songs and big hair in this sassy, spirited musical about a real-life brothel in Texas. Based on the "Chicken Ranch", the infamous, long-running house of ill repute, this tongue-in-cheek story chronicles Miss Mona Stangley, a classy yet brassy madam with a heart of gold, as her "business" becomes the center of a media controversy. Thrusting the Chicken Ranch into the spotlight is Melvin P. Thorpe, a loud-mouthed reporter based on Houston's own late Marvin Zindler. Spicing up the story line is a hot-headed, trigger-happy town sheriff, the Texas A&M football team, and Miss Mona's risque girls. The Best Little Whorehouse In Texas will be a feisty, fun-filled treat that includes favorites such as "A Lil' Ole Bitty Pissant Country Place" and "Hard Candy Christmas".

Variety reports that actor, comedian Bill Murray will be joining the cast of Roman Coppola's new film A GLIMPSE INSIDE THE MIND OF CHARLES SWAN III.' The film will also co-star actor Charlie Sheen.

Originally produced on Broadway in 1935 with Stella Adler, Sanford Meisner, Luther Adler, and other members of the Group Theatre, Main Street's production has previews May 2, 3, and 6 and opens Thursday, May 7, and runs through June 7 at Main Street Theater - Rice Village, 2540 Times Blvd. (There is no performance Friday, May 8.)
