Caught in the perilous world of a brutal cross-border cartel, a young woman finds powers she never knew she had as she seeks to rescue her friend. Hollywood's newest heartthrob, Ismael Cruz-Córdova (Mary Queen of Scots), stars alongside Rodriguez as the cartel kingpin, whose growing attraction to his strong-willed female hostage raises the stakes for both as the CIA, DEA, and rival cartels close in. Rodriguez and Cruz-Córdova are joined by co-stars, Anthony Mackie (Avengers: Infinity War) and Matt Lauria (“Friday Night Lights”) in this female-driven action story directed by Catherine Hardwicke (Twilight) from a screenplay by Gareth Dunnet-Alcocer (Contrapelo).
Film Independent Announces 2019 Directing Lab Fellows

Film Independent announced today the five directors selected for its 19th annual Directing Lab. The Lab is an intensive eight-week program designed to support emerging independent film directors on their feature films. This year's creative advisors and guest speakers include Andrew Ahn, Ruth Atkinson, Daniel Barnz, Ava Berkofsky, Destin Cretton, Catherine Hardwicke, Tina Mabry, Alex O'Flinn, Lisa Robertson, and Emily Schweber.

Lacrimosa, an award-winning short film directed and co-written by Tanja Mairitsch, has been picked up by SHORTSTV. The mesmerizing film tells the story of a young girl named Mila who wakes up in an unknown world full of mysteries. On her journey through the ever-changing surreal landscapes she meets her lost love, Theo. As they interact, Mila is forced to learn that love also means to let go.

Stephen Dorff To Headline Embattled From Writer David McKenna

Blitz Films and Straight Up Films announce that Stephen Dorff (“True Detective,” BLADE) has been signed to star in director Nick Sarkisov's English-language debut EMBATTLED. Written by David McKenna (AMERICAN HISTORY X, GET CARTER, BLOW), the film also includes McKenna's son, Colin, who was born with Williams Syndrome and inspired a supporting role for the film. Sarkisov is set to produce for Blitz Films, alongside Kate Cohen for Straight Up Films, and Scott LaStaiti, with Blitz co-founder Sergey Sarkisov and Dorff serving as executive producers. Eryl Cochran from Blitz Films will oversee production. The film is scheduled to shoot in Alabama this September.

Premium television network EPIX® announced today that the third season of its original spy drama Berlin Station will commence production in Budapest, Hungary on July 4 with new series regular Ismael Cruz Córdova (Ray Donovan). The series, which also welcomed new showrunner Jason Horwitch (Rubicon, House of Cards) this season, is slated to return to EPIX later this year.

BWW Feature: Maggie Stiefvater's THE RAVEN CYCLE QUARTET to Become a TV Series

This week, Publishers Marketplace announced that Maggie Stiefvater's best-selling quartet The Raven Cycle has been picked up for television by Universal Cable Productions. The pilot episode is set to be directed by Catherine Hardwicke, best known for bringing Stephenie Meyer's best-selling Twilight series to film. Hardwicke will also executive produce the series. The show will also be executive produced by Michael London via his Groundswell Productions Banner. The series will be led by showrunner Andrew Miller, who worked on adapting L.J. Smith's book series The Secret Circle to TV.
