Disney's Aladdin, a new musical comedy based on the Academy Award®-winning animated film, begins performances at Broadway's New Amsterdam Theatre tomorrow, Wednesday, February 26th, 2014, prior to opening on March 20th. Produced by Disney Theatrical Productions, the show features music by Tony Award® and eight-time Oscar® winner Alan Menken (Beauty and the Beast, Newsies, Sister Act), lyrics by two-time Oscar winner Howard Ashman (Beauty and the Beast, The Little Mermaid), three-time Tony Award and three-time Oscar winner Tim Rice (Evita, Aida) and two-time Tony Award nominee Chad Beguelin (The Wedding Singer), with a book by Beguelin, and is directed and choreographed by Tony Award winner Casey Nicholaw (The Book of Mormon). Standing before a packed house of subscribers, Executive Producer and Artistic Director David Armstrong revealed The 5th Avenue Theatre's 2014/15 season. "Every year we try to choose a season that embodies our mission: to celebrate our great indigenous art form, The Musical - past, present, and future," Armstrong said. The producers of the national tour of the THE BOOK OF MORMON, winner of nine Tony Awards including Best Musical, and Segerstrom Center for the Arts announced today that single tickets will go on sale Sunday, March 9, 2014 at 10 a.m. PST for the Orange County engagement from May 13 - 25, 2014. The show just announced the following rush policy: A limited number of general rush seats will be sold for each performance on the day of the show when the box office opens for $32.50 each. Rush tickets can be purchased by cash or charge at the box office. Locations will be at the theatre's discretion and may not be offered at all performances. Each guest in line may purchase a maximum of two (2) tickets.

For the week ending 2/9/14, THE BOOK OF MORMON broke the house record at Atlanta's Fox Theatre, grossing $2,802,606.00. This milestone represents the highest eight performance gross in Broadway touring history. The show breaks a record previously set by WICKED in 2012.

If you know what I mean when I say things such as "Are you telling me cocoanuts migrate?!?" "She's got huge tracks of land!" and "Ni!" then you're my kind of nerd who understands the joy that is "Monty Python and the Holy Grail". And while musical theater nerds are aware, I was surprised to find out how many others didn't know that the genius of Holy Grail was giddily translated into the musical "Monty Python's Spamalot" which ran off with the Tony for best musical in 2005. And now the 5th Avenue Theatre presents an all local production of the smash hit and with the talent and design at their disposal, it's about as close to the Broadway show as you're going to get (without Jews, of course).
