AMERICAN IDOL, the most successful music competition show in television history, returns this summer with an unprecedented 14th consecutive national tour. 19 Entertainment, Inc. announced Tuesday that the 37-show concert tour launches Tuesday, July 7 in Clearwater, FL, and stops in major cities, including New York, Chicago, Houston and Nashville. The tour will include Mesa Arts Center's Ikeda Theater, with a one-night-only performance on August 16, 2015. Tickets go on sale starting Friday, April 17 via AmericanIdol.com/tour and will be available through Mesa Arts Center's box office, at mesaartscenter.com or 480-644-6500.

AMERICAN IDOL, the most successful music competition show in television history, returns this summer with an unprecedented 14th consecutive national tour. The 37-show concert tour will stop at The VETS in Providence on Monday, August 3rd. Tickets are $63-$43 and can be purchased online at ?TheVetsRI.com, by calling (401) 421.ARTS (2787), or in person at the PPAC/The VETS box office located at 220 Weybosset St. in Providence. The VETS on-site box office located at One Avenue of the Arts is only open on show days. VIP and Gold Hot Seat Packages are available.

When one of the world's major opera houses announced its plans to present the best-known works of Broadway's Rodgers and Hammerstein over a five-season span, no one had reason to believe that the Lyric Opera of Chicago would present a 'Carousel' starring a slew of Broadway, television, opera and ballet stars alongside the cream of Chicago's theatrical and vocal talent (60 actors, singers and dancers in all), supported by an orchestra of 37 players, and all overseen by the same director and musical director who would bring 'The Sound of Music' and 'Peter Pan' to live television, Carrie Underwood, Christopher Walken and all.

Last month, composer Georgia Stitt along with violinist Victoria Paterson and Kate Baldwin reunited at SubCulture to perform 'Alphabet City Cycle.' Originally recorded in 2009, the song cycle with lyrics by Marcy Heisler consists of five songs about women alone in New York City.

While the frat boys parked their boozy asses in the bar car (aka the couch) for the long road to the NCAA's Final Four over the past few weeks, NYC's village cabaret club The Duplex offered an alternative "March Madness": Cabaret shows about being crazy. As a devotee of time on a different sort of couch, I was drawn in to three separate performances--from Michael Shea, Stacie Koby, and Amber Petty--seeking some music therapy to get me through the tail end of a long winter.
