Greetings once again from East Haddam, CT, home of the Goodspeed Opera House and the world premiere production of Irving Berlin's Holiday Inn. This is our last week up here, and therefore my last blog. Don't be too sad though. I will be recapping the new season of "The Bachelor" beginning in January for BroadwayWorld! Every. Single. Week. I'll let you decide if that's threat or not.

Thanks to the efforts of the cast of Irving Berlin's HOLIDAY INN and the generosity of our Goodspeed's audience members, the theatre company has raised $23,935.58 this holiday season for Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS, it was announced today.

"An Old-Fashioned Walk" or, I cheated on this title a little because I have a car Good day, friends! This week, I would like to take you through a week in my life at Irving Berlin's Holiday Inn, currently playing at the Goodspeed Opera House. I call this "An Old-Fashioned Walk" because a large majority of the company do not have vehicles up here, so they are old-fashioned walking everywhere. Also, since everything seems to be a 20 minute drive away, we old-fashioned walk to the theatre every day. And to 32 Main, the coffee shop up the hill. And to the liquor store across the street. Plus, I old-fashioned walk my dog, Milo, every single day, like 47 times a day, so my whole life seems to be old-fashioned walking. Thank goodness I have a FitBit to tell me if I'm old-fashioned walking enough every day!

Obvious statement: relationships are hard. Like, real hard. But throw in some out-of-sync schedules, mix in a little 'gotta kiss some random person who is not my significant other cause it's my job', and finish it off with anywhere from hundreds to thousands of miles between the two of you, and it becomes near impossible. Hence, the long distance relationship is born. AKA the LDR, as us peeps in the business say. Or maybe only I do. Or maybe I just made that up because I type with three fingers and I'm already getting tired.

Sunday night, Westchester Broadway Theatre was proud to welcome a group of soldiers of the Marine unit stationed at Stewart Air Base in Newburgh NY and their Commander, Lieutenant Colonel Ian Wallace and Mrs. Wallace. The 27 Marines enjoyed an evening of fine dining and entertainment. Irving Berlin's White Christmas was a wonderful show for ushering in the Holiday Season. A well-deserved respite from the intense life style that 'our' heros live, all in the name of freedom. Scroll down for photos below!

TheatreWorks Kids registration is now open for four brand-new fall programs for area youths. INDIVIDUAL VOCAL LESSONS with professional Zoe Vandermeer will begin on Tuesday September 17 for 10 weeks. Students will learn how to breathe for singing, improve their range, develop strength, power and flexibility in their voice, and gain confidence through a step by step training method that is clear, concise and reliable. Ms. Vandermeer has 23 years of experience as a voice teacher and specializes in training children, actors, speakers, and those in need of vocal rehabilitation. Timmy the Great is a new musical based on the children's book King Timmy the Great by Sandra Hochman and Tad Danielak, (which was inspired by the Polish martyr, Janusz Korshak's, book 'King Matt The First'). Book & Lyrics are by poet, novelist, journalist, Sandra Hochman (Yale Younger Poets Award, and twice nominated for a Pulitzer Prize); Gary Kupper ('Freckle Face Strawberry') has composed the music; and Edward Pierce is the production consultant. Choreographed by Julie Arenal ('Hair'). The production is directed by Julie Arenal and Jay Binder. Get a first look at the musical below!
