STAR TREK, THE BIG BANG THEORY and SCORPION return to San Diego, joined by new Network series and a first-ever “Fan Favorites” session with CBS stars. As America celebrates its 240th Birthday today, let's talk about what is probably one of the greatest musicals ever written, and it only came about 46 years before Hamilton. 1776 dramatizes the story of how John Adams was able to persuade his colleagues to vote for American independence as well as signing the Declaration of Independence. While the musical does dramatize the most important event in American history, the story behind the musical is probably just as interesting.

Sony Classical proudly announces the release of Independence Day: Resurgence Original Motion Picture Soundtrack, featuring music by Thomas Wander and Harald Kloser. The soundtrack will be available digitally on June 17 and on CD July 1. Independence Day: Resurgence will arrive in theatres nationwide on Friday, June 24. Directed by Roland Emmerich, the film stars Liam Hemsworth, Jeff Goldblum, Bill Pullman, Maika Monroe, Travis Tope, William Fichtner, Charlotte Gainsbourg, Judd Hirsch, Jessie Usher, Brent Spiner and Vivica A. Fox.

The STARZ Original series "Blunt Talk" began production in Los Angeles on the 10-episode second season of the half-hour scripted comedy series from Media Rights Capital (MRC) and executive produced by Seth MacFarlane, Jonathan Ames, Tristram Shapeero, and Stephanie Davis.

Did you know that Sir Patrick Stewart, star of stages and screens large and small had returned to television this season? No, I didn't think so. In BLUNT TALK on the Starz network, the Shakespearean legend turned Starship captain turned mutant teacher plays debilitatingly self-destructive newsman Walter Blunt. The black comedy, produced by Seth McFarland, is what would happen if you threw HBO's THE NEWSROOM, Showtime's EPISODES, and FOX's FAMILY GUY in a blender and turned it into a half-hour TV show. It's not WAITING FOR GODOT level quality, but seeing the normally earnest actor play such a delightfully silly character is incredibly entertaining, and for some reason cathartic.

The Hollywood Reporter writes that Roland Emmerich's sequel to the 1996 sci-fi film INDEPENDENCE DAY will be titled RESURGENCE.

Roundabout Theatre Company's production of Joe Masteroff, John Kander and Fred Ebb's Tony winning musical Cabaret, starring Tony Award-winner Alan Cumming and Golden Globe-winner Michelle Williams, begins previews tomorrow, Friday March 21. Cabaret officially opens on Thursday, April 24, 2014 at Studio 54 (254 West 54th Street). This is a 24-week limited engagement. MAUDE MAGGART - the acclaimed vocalist hailed as 'singular and arresting' by the New York Times, 'wonderful' by Business Week and 'ingenious' by the Village Voice - will make her debut at the Cafe Carlyle with a special engagement from February 25 to March 1. Her new show 'The Door Opened' will feature numbers by golden-age songwriters Irving Berlin ('I Used To Be Color Blind'), Harry Warren ('Serenade In Blue') and Dorothy Fields ('Blue Again'), in addition to rarely-heard songbook gems including 'Why Am I So Romantic?' (introduced in the legendary Marx Brothers film Animal Crackers) and 'I May Be Wrong, But I Think You're Wonderful' (performed by Maude's grandmother). The evening will feature Music Director John Boswell on piano. She will preview the Carlyle run with two performances at the Gardenia in Los Angeles on February 14 and 15.
