Blake Shelton Backlash Continues with 'March' on Nashville to Support Traditional Country Music, 4/17

The furor raging around country recording artist Blake Shelton when he publicly said 'older people who do not buy my CDs or concert tickets are old farts and jackasses' has advanced to a state of war in Nashville, Tennessee. A 'March' on Nashville is now scheduled for April 17 beginning at 11am at Tony Rose Park (08 Music Circle East) with the march going down Music Row, ending at the offices of the Country Music Association, which has virtually eliminated 'traditional' country music from their objectives. There will be a free concert of 'traditional American music' by participating musicians following the march.

From the iconic songbook of Johnny Cash comes this unique musical about love and faith, struggle and success, rowdiness and redemption, and home and family. More than two dozen classic hits - including 'I Walk the Line,' 'A Boy Named Sue,' 'Folsom Prison Blues,' and the title tune - performed by a multi-talented cast, paint a musical portrait of The Man in Black that promises to be a foot-stompin', crowd-pleasin' salute to a uniquely American legend! Richard Maltby, Jr. created the piece and will also direct The Rep's production. It was originally conceived by William Meade with orchestrations by Steven Bishop and Jeff Lisenby. Malty is re-conceiving his Johnny Cash tribute specifically for a five-member ensemble for The Rep's Stackner Cabaret. The cast features Trenna Barnes, Eddie Clendening, Jason Edwards, David Miles Keenan and Mark W. Winchester, who are all making their Rep debuts. Ring of Fire: The Music of Johnny Cash runs in the Stackner Cabaret from tonight, March 1 - May 5, and opens Sunday, March 3.

The furor raised by Nashville country music superstar, Blake Shelton, when he complained that fans of older and more traditional sounding country music were not attending his concerts or buying his CD's, has a response. He publicly called them 'old farts and jackasses.' There has been a response all right, in Miami, Florida, of all places.
