The Billie Holiday Theatre's 39th Season Opens With BROTHERS FROM THE BOTTOM

The Billie Holiday Theatre, Brooklyn's premiere off-Broadway company, opens its 39th Season with the world premiere of Jackie Alexander's play Brothers from the Bottom. Two more Equity productions of original plays by Alexander will follow: The Legend of Buster Neal and The Right Reverend Dupree in Exile.

On Wednesday, April 29th, 'The High Priestess of Dark Alley' by Jackie Alexander, celebrated the re-opening of the production with an invite-only red carpet event at the Billie Holiday Theatre in Brooklyn, NY. Celebrities in attendance included, the legendary Ms. Ruby Dee, Model/Actress Liris Crosse, Actor Nasser Metcalfe, American Idol Alumni Anwar Robinson, Actor/Basketball Player DeMarco Majors, Wrestler Brimstone, Image Director Alexander and Actress Nicole Allen, just to name a few.

Brooklyn?s famed Billie Holiday Theatre will present the world premiere of THE HIGH PRIESTESS OF DARK ALLEY, a new play by playwright/director Jackie Alexander. The production will play a strictly limited engagement February 19 through March 22, 2009. Previews are Thursday, February 19 through Saturday, February 27. Opening night is Saturday, February 28. The performance schedule is Thursdays ? Saturdays at 8:00 p.m., Saturdays at 3:00 p.m. and Sundays at 4:00 p.m. Tickets are $15-$23, with additional discounts available for seniors and students. Award-winning author/director Jackie Alexander's 'BIRTHRIGHT' takes place one year after Katrina in Slidell, Louisiana, fifteen miles northeast of New Orleans. 'BIRTHRIGHT' will have its World Premiere at the Billie Holiday Theatre ( 1368 Fulton Street, Brooklyn) on Friday, May 16th where it will run through Sunday, June 29th.

Katrina-Themed 'The Desire' Begins Previews April 28

The Desire, written and directed by Jackie Alexander (Primary Stages' Plenty of Time, feature film Joy), will begin preview performances at the Billie Holiday Theatre, Saturday, April 28th at 3PM. Starring Wendell B. Franklin, Heidi Kristoffer, Kellie E. McCants, Kerri Miller, Anthony Sandkamp, and Shane Taylor, the show will open Sunday, May 6th at 4PM.

2006 Obie Winners Announced

The 51st Annual Village Voice Obie Awards, Off Broadway's highest honor, were handed out last tonight at the Skirball Center on the campus of New York University in a ceremony hosted by Lili Taylor and Eric Bogosian presented by S. Epatha Merkerson, Christine Ebersole, Edward Hibbert, Douglas Carter Beane, Phylicia Rashad and Oskar Eustis.
