Brooklyn Phil Presents Deborah Buck In Recital

Sunday, January 29 at 2:00pm at the Brooklyn Museum, the Brooklyn Philharmonic will present violinist Deborah Buck-concertmaster of the Brooklyn Phil since 2007-in recital with pianist Molly Morkoski.

The Brooklyn Phil, in its debut "reboot" season under Alan Pierson, and the Brooklyn Youth Chorus, celebrating its 20th anniversary under Dianne Berkun, are two of the borough's venerable arts institutions. Recently Roulette, the famed experimental music venue in Manhattan, moved into a new home in Downtown Brooklyn, a gorgeous renovated 1920's art deco theater. Together all three are part of a cultural renaissance which is taking place in Brooklyn, and they have now formed an unprecedented partnership to present a multimedia spectacular: BROOKLYN VILLAGE, an homage to the creative spirit of Downtown Brooklyn as it has evolved over the last 200 years.

On Friday, February 24, Missy Mazzoli's multimedia opera Song from the Uproar, created in collaboration with filmmaker Stephen Taylor, librettist Royce Vavrek, and director Gia Forakis, receives its world premiere at The Kitchen in New York City, opening a run of five performances: February 24 + 25 (Friday - Saturday), and March 1 - 3 (Thursday - Saturday).

Robert Sirota's ISCARIOT at Trinity Wall Street is Cancelled

The world premiere performances of composer Robert Sirota's opera, ISCARIOT, which were previously announced as being presented at Trinity Wall Street's St. Paul's Chapel as part of the Festival of New Music this spring, have been canceled as part of the institution's cutbacks to its arts programming which were announced earlier this month. The opera had been scheduled for three performances on May 25, 26, and 27, 2012. The performers were to have included members of the Trinity Choir with the American Contemporary Music Ensemble (ACME). ISCARIOT was to have been produced by Beth Morrison Projects.

ACME (American Contemporary Music Ensemble) will perform a free concert at Joe's Pub (425 Lafayette St., NYC) on Tuesday, October 25, 2011 at 7pm presented by online contemporary classical community Sequenza21.com and the Manhattan New Music Project. The works to be performed were selected through an open call for scores by ACME artistic director Clarice Jensen, composer and Sequenza21 senior editor Christian Carey, and composer Hayes Biggs.
