Abingdon Theatre Company, under the leadership of Artistic Director Tony Speciale, has added a matinee performance to its world-premiere run of A Room of My Own on Friday, March 4 at 3pm. Written and Directed by Charles Messina, the new play has sold-out its run prior to opening on Thursday, February 25. Off-Broadway performances conclude March 13 at Abingdon's June Havoc Theatre (312 West 36th Street), featuring Tony Award-nominee Mario Cantone (Sex and the City, Laugh Whore, Steve) and Ralph Macchio (Dancing with the Stars, The Karate Kid, My Cousin Vinny).

Abingdon Theatre Company, under the leadership of Artistic Director Tony Speciale, presents the world premiere of A ROOM OF MY OWN, written and and directed by Charles Messina. Currently in previews, and set to open Thursday, February 25 in Abingdon's June Havoc Theatre (312 West 36th Street), this new comedy features Mario Cantone and Ralph Macchio, with Nico Bustamante, Kendra Jain, Johnny Tammaro, Joli Trubuzio and Liza Vann. BroadwayWorld.com is sad to report the death of Jennifer Rae Beck, after a recurring and long-term battle with breast cancer. The actress, mother and business owner was a longtime friend of the site's, having performed in Standing Ovations IV, BroadwayWorld.com's sold-out benefit concert.

Robert E. Wankel, Chairman of the Broadway League and President & Co-CEO of the Shubert Organization announced today that the League's Executive Committee has elected Charlotte St. Martin to the position of President. The Broadway League is the trade association representing commercial theatre in the United States, whose members include producers, theatre owners, and presenters of Broadway across the country and internationally.

The annual New York Musical Theatre Festival (NYMF) is a fertile ground for quirky, offbeat musicals, giving invaluable exposure to new projects. When I first heard that ZOMBIE STRIPPERS would be performing at NYMF this year, I couldn't help but get excited. The title alone offers enough titillating connotations to tantalize the brain, filling it with voluminous curiosity as to how a creative team makes a musical about strippers who happen to also be zombies. Unfortunately, the current end product leaves something to be desired.

Philosophy for Gangsters, an irresponsible comedy about ideas, honor, and messy deaths, by Liz Peak and Barry Peak, is currently running in its limited Off-Broadway world premiere engagement. Directed by both Peaks, performances began at The Beckett Theatre (410 West 42nd Street - between 9th & 10th Aves.) on Saturday, February 1. Opening Night was celebrated on February 4, and the show is scheduled to play through March 1st. BroadwayWorld has photos from the opening night festivities below!
