Broadway Revival of HUGHIE with Forest Whitaker Begins Rehearsals Today

Rehearsals began today for the highly anticipated Broadway revival of Eugene O'Neill's HUGHIE starring Academy Award winner, Golden Globe Award winner & BAFTA winner Forest Whitaker (The Last King of Scotland, The Butler, Southpaw) and Tony Award winner Frank Wood (Side Man, Angels In America, Clybourne Park), which will begin performances on Monday, February 8, 2016 and officially open on Thursday, February 25, 2016 at Broadway's Booth Theatre (222 West 45 Street). Directed by Tony Award winner and Olivier Award winner Michael Grandage (Photograph 51, Red, Frost/Nixon), HUGHIE will play a strictly limited engagement.

On Monday, October 28th, 2015, Rick McKay, the Director, Producer, Writer, Cinematographer and editor of the hit 2004 film, 'Broadway: The Golden Age' won 'Best Film - Greenwich Village Portraits' for his new short film, 'Greenwich Village: A World Apart', at the first ever Greenwich Village Film Festival, which was held at Greenwich Village's historic Player's Theatre at 115 MacDougal Street.

Rick McKay has shared another video from his trilogy, BROADWAY: THE GOLDEN AGE. In his words, 'Here is a tribute to my pal Marian Seldes, one of the great actresses of the stage of the last century and well into this one. Marian passed away yesterday, leaving many of us devastated. However, she lived a long, full life and touched many, many people with her work. In her later career she was known variously as "Broadway's Quiet Lioness," "The First Lady of Broadway," or as theater critic Clive Barnes called her, 'America's theatrical diva for our time.' The human condition of gays in contemporary Russia mirrors life in a phantasmagoric insane asylum. That's the view of a new play, 'That Queer Blind Silence' (www.thatqueerblindsilence.com) by emigre playwright Sophia Romma. Her political farce, written in English but in the style of Russian Expressionism, depicts the ordeals of a fictional figure skater whose character was inspired partly by the life and career of bronze medalist Johnny Weir. Underground International Voices of Theatre, in association with The O'Neill Film and Theatrical Foundation, will present the play's world premiere run tonight, August 5 to 23 at 13th Street Repertory Company, 50 West 13th Street, NYC, directed by John Beshaw-Farrell.

As a personal aside, following the conclusion of the interview proper the conversation between Ms. Stritch and I continued for several more minutes and she emphatically relayed to me that this had been her favorite interview to date and that she was incredibly appreciative and pleased with being questioned about the topics chosen herein. Stage and Television stars Gavin MacLeod, Joyce Bulifant and G.W. Bailey lead a cast of twenty professional actors and singers in Dezart Performs fundraising gala, 'ON THE AIR! An Evening of Live Radio Show Classics,' on Thursday, March 13, 2014 at The Camelot Theatres in Palm Springs. The live show with post-performance VIP reception will take the audience back in time to radio's golden age of the 1940s and 1950s with all of the stage gimmicks in tact including sound effects created right on stage, applause signs-and even commercials with original jingles for the modern-day companies sponsoring the special event. The radio shows to be vividly recreated are 'The Bickersons,' 'Sherlock Holmes,' and 'My Favorite Husband.' I had the chance to chat with MacLeod about his life and career and participating in the ON THE AIR benefit. Here are a few excerpts from the conversation.
