A STREETCAR NAMED DESIRE tells the story of fragile Southern belle, Blanche, who leaves the family plantation house and moves to New Orleans to live with her sister, Stella, and her animalistic husband, Stanley. Once there, she quickly gets a gritty life lesson in the steamy underbelly of 1940s French Quarter life.

The Sandra Feinstein-Gamm (The Gamm) opens Season 31 (2015-2016) with a timeless American classic, Tennessee Williams' A Streetcar Named Desire. This Pulitzer Prize-winning drama by the author of The Glass Menagerie (Gamm 2010) and Cat On A Hot Tin Roof(Gamm 2002) is an undisputed masterpiece and a landmark of 20th-century theater. Gamm Artistic Director Tony Estrella directs, featuring Marianna Bassham (Hedda Tesman in Hedda Gabler, 2014) as Blanche DuBois, the former southern beauty whose fragile world is crumbling; resident actor Karen Carpenter (Thea Elvsted in Hedda Gabler, 2014) as Blanche's sister, StellaKowalski; and Anthony Goes (Barnabas in Paul, 2010) as her brother-in-law, Stanley Kowalski.

Germantown Community Theatre has announced the slate of productions for their 2015-2016 season. The season blends music, theatre for youth, classic literature and raucous fun. Titles include Neil Simon's RUMORS, the movie-turned-musical DIRTY ROTTEN SCOUNDRELS and Tennessee Williams' A STREETCAR NAMED DESIRE. Gillian Anderson and Ben Foster sat down with The Telegraph to discuss their upcoming roles in the Young Vic's A Streetcar Named Desire by Tennessee Williams. Anderson will be playing Southern belle Blanche DuBois and Foster will be playing her brother-in-law Stanley Kowalski. Set in the French Quarter of New Orleans, Streetcar follows the tension between the two. The production opens July 23 and runs through September 6.

Some would say that it's the journey that's most important, rather than the destination. Others will argue that it's the destination that matters, no matter how one arrives there. In theater, plays are often concerned with a character's journey, where they have been, where they are headed, why they're going in that direction and, finally, where they actually end up. The current production of A Streetcar Named Desire, jointly presented by Psych Drama Company and Rhode Island Shakespeare Company, is an example of what happens when the journey is secondary, even ignored, and how that can diminish a play's power.
