The American Theatre Wing (Heather Hitchens, President) and The Village Voice (Peter Barbey, Owner) are thrilled to announce the winners of the 62nd Annual Obie Awards®. Jennifer Kidwell & Scott R. Sheppard's Underground Railroad Game, produced by Ars Nova, and J.T. Roger's Oslo, produced by Lincoln Center Theater, shared the Obie Awards for Best New American Theatre Work, which is accompanied by a $500 prize each. Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright Paula Vogel received a special Obie Award for Lifetime Achievement. Obie and Screen Actors Guild® Award-winning actress Lea DeLaria returned as host of this year's ceremony, which was held at Webster Hall (125 East 11th Street). It is a classic East meets West tale and one that many count as their favorite musical, but when THE KING AND I, the classic Rodgers and Hammerstein musical plays at the Bushnell in Hartford, audiences will have the chance to experience this story in a whole new way. This production, based on the critically acclaimed version produced at New York's Lincoln Center, will take the Bushnell stage in Hartford May 30 - June 4. Playing Prince Chulalongkorn, the eldest son and heir to the throne, will be Anthony Chan. I had the pleasure of speaking with Anthony and learning about his experience with this beautiful classic.

Theatre for a New Audience has announced casting for British director Simon Godwin's new staging of Measure for Measure, William Shakespeare's dark comedy about justice, faith, power, sex, and family.

In an interview with The New York Times, Metropolitan Opera general manager Peter Gelb revealed that the 2019-20 season would feature a new production of Porgy and Bess, directed by Bartlett Sher and starring Grammy-award winner Eric Owens.

J.T. Rogers and Bartlett Sher are two of seven Tony nominees for Lincoln Center Theatre's poignant new play- Oslo. Below, the playwright and director open up about the process and how the technical aspects of this project have been the most complex that they've worked on yet!

This week THEATER TALK features the lead actors, playwright and director of the acclaimed play Oslo at Lincoln Center's Vivian Beaumont Theater - Jennifer Ehle, Jefferson Mays, writer J.T. Rogers, and director Bartlett Sher - and continues with Part 2 of an interview with the creators of the hit musical Dear Evan Hansen - librettist Steven Levenson and composer/lyricists Benj Pasek & Justin Paul, who perform songs from Dear Evan Hansen, Dogfight, and La La Land.

Lyric Opera of Chicago presents the American premiere of a new production of Lerner and Loewe's My Fair Lady, starring Richard E. Grant and Lisa O'Hare as Henry Higgins and Eliza Doolittle. The production runs tonight, April 28, through May 21 (press opening April 29) at Lyric's Civic Opera House, 20 N. Wacker Drive, Chicago. BroadwayWorld has a first look at the cast in action below!

The awards include a cash prize of $2,500 for Best Play, made possible by a grant from the Lucille Lortel Foundation. The awards will be presented at a private cocktail reception on Thursday, May 18.
