Film and stage actor Anthony Rapp ('Rent' on Broadway and film) was artist in residence for a week during the Spring '11 semester. Rapp worked with students in several classes in the School of Music and with a class in Dramatic Media. Rapp also participated in a talkback session with TLU students, faculty and staff after a showing of the film version of 'Rent.' This summer, Broadway actors Darlene Love, Julia Murney, Anthony Rapp and Matt Dengler star in 'Free to Dream: New Songs for the American Journey,' a concert specially adapted for Colonial Williamsburg. Television personality Willard Scott also lends his recorded voice to the program, which showcases the people and places that make up the fabric of America with musical styles from country, rock and pop to swing and the blues. It is a compilation of pieces by Grammy-winning composer Doug Katsaros and two-time Emmy-nominated lyricist William Schermerhorn. A nine-piece band accompanies the singers.

Anthony Rapp, Scott Adist, Jon McCormick, Nicola Murphy, Spencer Aste, Jeffrey Omura, Jennifer Van Dyck, Jonathan Walker and Sam Underwood are set to star in '3D Hamlet: A Lost Generation.' The film, presented by Fundamental Theater Project, will play the The Irish Arts Center, July 21-24.

The fact that Jonathan Larson won two posthumous Tony Award for writing and composing Rent is certainly bittersweet, but the fact that for one of those awards he bested the also posthumously nominated Rodgers and Hammerstein is just plain weird. But the last-minute addition of Rent to the 1995-96 Broadway season seemed to be the catalyst for one the oddest Tony nights ever.
