Stephen Sondheim is widely acknowledged as the most innovative, most influential, and most important composer and lyricist in modern Broadway history. He is the winner of an Academy Award, numerous Tony Award, multiple Grammy Awards and a Pulitzer Prize. Longtime collaborators James Lapine and John Weidman announced the renaming of Henry Miller's Theatre to the Stephen Sondheim Theatre. The renaming of the theatre is dedicated to Stephen Sondheim, the greatest and best known artist in American musical theatre on his 80th birthday. The announcement was made at the curtain call following Roundabout Theatre Company's gala performance of the new Broadway musical Sondheim on Sondheim.

Muddy Waters Theatre begin their season of O'Neill with the classic American morality tale, DESIRE UNDER THE ELMS, a play that manages to examine nearly all of the seven deadly sins before reaching its dramatic conclusion. If you've only seen the woefully miscast movie version (I mean, really, Burl Ives, Sophia Loren and Anthony Perkins as the love triangle?), then you owe it to yourself to check out a well cast and thoughtfully directed production, and the current presentation by Muddy Waters fills the bill nicely.

Music & lyrics are by Stephen Sondheim, conceived & directed by James Lapine. Sondheim on Sondheim will begin previews on March 19th, 2010 and open officially April 22nd, 2010 at Studio 54 on Broadway (254 West 54th Street). Robert Mulligan, Hollywood Director Passes Away at 83

Variety had disclosed that Robert Mulligan director of the the classic film 'To Kill a Mockingbird,' died Saturday in Lyme, Conn., after a battle with heart disease. Mulligan was 83. Mulligan was nominated for an Oscar for 'Mockingbird,' the adaptation of Harper Lee's bestselling, Pulitzer Prize-winning novel. The 1962 film starred Gregory Peck, who won the best actor Oscar for his portrayal of Atticus Finch.
