FIAF Launches 2015 Crossing the Line Festival with 'Suite N°2', 9/10-11

The French Institute Alliance Francaise (FIAF) and the Hermes Foundation's New Settings program are thrilled to launch FIAF's 2015 Crossing the Line festival with the U.S. premiere of Suite n°2 from French director Joris Lacoste. In Suite n°2, an uproarious and poignant performance emerges from the simplest of sources-the spoken word.

KC Rep Welcomes New Artistic Staff

Kansas City Repertory Theatre Artistic Director Eric Rosen today announced additions to KC Rep's artistic staff. Jason Chanos has been hired as the new Associate Artistic Director and Marissa Wolf in the newly created position as Director of New Work/Artistic Associate. Chanos will begin January 5, 2015 and Wolf will begin December 10, 2014.

Today in 2008, Passing Strange closed at the Belasco Theatre, where it ran for 165 performances. Passing Strange is a rock musical about a young African American's artistic journey of self-discovery in Europe, drawing on heavy elements of existentialism, metafictional comedy, and the Kunstlerroman. The musical's lyrics and book are by Stew with music and orchestrations by Heidi Rodewald and Stew. It was created in collaboration with director Annie Dorsen. The musical was developed at the Sundance Institute Theatre Lab in 2004 and 2005, one of the only works there ever to be invited back for a second round of development. It had productions in Berkeley, California and Off-Broadway before opening on Broadway in 2008, garnering strong reviews and several awards. Spike Lee filmed the musical on Broadway as a documentary, premiering the film in 2009.

A multi-media theater performance devoid of actors, 33 RPM and a Few Seconds reconstructs the final moments of a life after the suicide of a young Lebanese man.

Performance Space 122, an East Village contemporary performance hub, announces the co-chairs of their Give Performance Space campaign, which coincides with the renovation of their over 30-year home at 150 1st Avenue. Give Performance Space is a capacity campaign to launch Performance Space 122's growth as an organization with the goal of better serving the artists and audiences of New York City. Bard Fisher Center Receives Major Funding To Support Fellowships Through Live Arts Bard Program

The second season of Live Arts Bard (LAB), a program of the Richard B. Fisher Center for the Performing Arts at Bard College, provides residencies for six American artists and ensembles making work that spans and transcends the fields of theater, performance, dance, music, film, and live art. Spring 2014 resident artists are Sarah Michelson, Nature Theater of Oklahoma, Geoff Sobelle, and Nilaja Sun. John Kelly and Robert Woodruff were LAB resident artists in fall 2013.

Spokaoke is a participatory art event that invites spectators to perform speeches, both well known and obscure, rather than songs, in a karaoke bar.
