Russian Opera Workshop to Stage Philadelphia Premiere of Anton Rubinstein's THE DEMON

In its fifth season, Russian Opera Workshop presents in-concert opera productions of Anton Rubinstein's The Demon, a Philadelphia premiere (June 23-25), and Tchaikovsky's last opera Iolanta (July 28-30). Performances are sung in Russian with English supertitles, with Founder & Music Director  Ghenady Meirson at the piano. The artists are introduced in the “preview” Russian Romances concerts Monday June 22 and July 27. All performances are free to public and start at 7:30 PM at the Helen Corning Warden Theater at the Academy of Vocal Arts, 1920 Spruce Street, Philadelphia, 19103.

Free Screening of WEST SIDE STORY Set for Lincoln Center Plaza This August

The Metropolitan Opera's annual Summer HD Festival, which presents free outdoor screenings of operas on Lincoln Center Plaza each summer, will return with 10 screenings of performances featuring the company's leading artists in a varied selection of operas by Bartók, Bizet, Gounod, Mozart, Offenbach, Puccini, Tchaikovsky, and Verdi, running on consecutive nights from August 29 through September 7.

Soprano Talya Lieberman and baritone Edward Nelson, joined on piano by former San Francisco Opera Adler Fellow Allen Perriello end the 32nd season of the Schwabacher Debut Recitals on Sunday, May 3 at Temple Emanu-El's Martin Meyer Sanctuary. The Merola Opera Program alumni will present an eclectic program showcasing works by Nico Muhly, Francis Poulenc, Henry Purcell, Franz Schubert and Kurt Weill. Also on the program, will be works of popular German lieder as well as poems by noted American female poets set to music by American composers.

Jonas Kaufmann has canceled his performance as Don José in Bizet's Carmen this Saturday, March 7 matinee, as he is still ill with the flu and unable to travel to New York. Yonghoon Lee, who substituted for Kaufmann at last evening's performance, has agreed to sing Don José on Saturday.

Jonas Kaufmann has canceled his performance as Don José in Bizet's Carmen for this Wednesday, March 4, because he is suffering from the flu and was unable to travel to New York as scheduled on Sunday. He hopes to recover in time to fly here later this week and perform as schedule on Saturday, March 7 matinee. In his place, Yonghoon Lee, who will be singing the title role in Verdi's Don Carlo later this month, has agreed to sing Don José on Wednesday.
