BWW is excited to announce the winners for the first annual BWW Dance World Awards! The awards honor professional dance that took place from January 1st to December 31st 2016. Our editors set the categories, our readers submitted the nominees and voted for their favorites! 

Black Velvet - Architectures and Archetypes is the original and all-new multidisciplinary dance production created by and featuring international dance artist Shamel Pitts, in collaboration with dance artist Mirelle Martins and lighting artist Lucca del Carlo. 

Juilliard Dance, entering its 66th season, opens its new season in December with New Dances: Edition 2017 featuring four world-premiere dances by up-and-coming choreographers Bryan Arias(first-year class), Gentian Doda (second-year class),Roy Assaf (third-year class), and Gustavo Ramirez Sansano (fourth-year class).

Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater, recognized by U.S. Congress as 'a vital American cultural ambassador to the world,' returns to Paris, Basel, several German cities, and Copenhagen to perform 15 ballets from July 4 - September 10.

In 1994 Disney's animated feature The Lion King was the cartoon movie that broke barriers and was popular with adults and children. With its textual references to William Shakespeare's HAMLET, this age old tale is one that no one needs to go in depth about. Houston Grand Opera (HGO) has appointed Dale Edwards, a veteran of the New York performing arts marketing and advertising world, to the position of marketing director, it was announced by HGO Managing Director Perryn Leech. He assumes the position July 24.

The NY Dance and Performance Awards, the Bessies, New York City's premier dance awards honoring outstanding creative work in the field, today announced that the nominees for the 2017 Outstanding Emerging Choreographer Award are Lela Aisha Jones, Niall Jones, Will Rawls, and Kate Skarpetowska. The Bessies are also thrilled to announce that Abby Zbikowski will receive the 2017 Juried Bessie Award.

Ailey Extension opens its doors this summer to kids and teens, offering three immersive, multi-day training workshops taught by New York City's top choreographers and master teachers. Ailey Experience NYC Jr., Ailey Experience NYC, and Fabrice Herrault's Ballet Summer Intensive allow young dancers to learn technique, musicality, and artistry.

Dance Consortium, a group of 19 large-scale venues located across the UK, has been successful in its application to remain an Arts Council England National Portfolio Organisation (NPO) for 2018 - 2022.
