Berkeley Repertory Theatre is ending the year the way it started: delighting audiences and impressing critics on both coasts with two hits here in Berkeley and another show taking New York by storm. Today ? even as Joe Turner's Come and Gone nears the end of its local run and Artistic Director Tony Taccone is Taking Over Manhattan with Danny Hoch ? the company announced an extension for its production of The Arabian Nights.

Written and directed by Mary Zimmerman (Argonautika), 'The Arabian Nights' was adapted from 'The Book of the Thousand Nights and One Night.' The show was set designed by Daniel Ostling and costumed by Mara Blumenfeld. TJ Gerckens did the lights and Andre Pluess and Ben Sussman were in charge of sound.

Next month, Tony Award-winning director Mary Zimmerman returns to Berkeley Repertory Theatre with an alluring adaptation of The Arabian Nights. This is Zimmerman's sixth trip to Berkeley Rep, and for the first time she works her magic on the intimate Thrust Stage. The Arabian Nights runs from November 13 through January 4 with the official press night on November 19.

Art, The Seafarer and Kafka on the Shore part of Steppenwolf 2008-2009 Season

Steppenwolf Theatre Company announced its 2008-2009 Subscription Season, exploring the theme of the imagination. The season opens with Kafka on the Shore, adapted for the stage and directed by ensemble member Frank Galati, based on the work by Haruki Murakami and featuring ensemble members Francis Guinan and Jon Michael Hill. The season continues with The Seafarer by Conor McPherson, directed by ensemble member Randall Arney and featuring ensemble member Francis Guinan, Tom Irwin, John Mahoney and Alan Wilder. Following The Seafarer is Art by Yasmina Reza, translated by Christopher Hampton and directed by ensemble member Rick Snyder. The fourth play is The Tempest by William Shakespeare, directed by ensemble member Tina Landau and featuring ensemble members Alana Arenas, K. Todd Freeman, Frank Galati, Jon Michael Hill, Yasen Peyankov and Alan Wilder.

Steppenwolf is pleased to announce the Steppenwolf for Young Adults 2008-2009 Season: The Glass Menagerie by Tennessee Williams, directed by ensemble member Yasen Peyankov, playing October 21 - November 9, 2008; and Of Mice and Men by John Steinbeck, directed by Michael Patrick Thornton, playing April 21 - May 10, 2009. Both productions will be presented in the Steppenwolf Downstairs Theatre, 1650 N. Halsted St. in Chicago.
