Seattle Opera has a full slate of youth activities planned for the winter, providing opportunities for performance, music education, and community-building for students across Washington State.

Seattle Opera will kick off its 23/24 season with Richard Wagner’s epic Das Rheingold in a stunning production by stage directorBrian Staufenbiel.

Jagged Little Pill, is the latest “Jukebox Musical,” in a rather long line of “Jukebox Musicals,” to make it on Broadway and then tour in recent years. With music by Alanis Morissette, book by Diablo Cody, and additional music by Michael Farrell and Guy Sigsworth, the show traverses the iconic landscape of songs represented on Morissette’s 1995 album of the same name, and touches on topics of pain, healing, and empowerment.

On March 5, 2021, Seattle Opera presented Mozart’s Don Giovanni to its worldwide online audience. Stage director Brenna Corner notes that the 1964 Hamlet on Broadway directed by Richard Burton inspired her to do this black-and-white film production and use it to communicate the opera’s basic premise. Corner says she intended to emphasize the drama.

Seattle Opera is introducing “single tickets” to its 2021 streaming productions of Don Giovanni, Flight, and Tosca—plus a bonus reprise of The Elixir of Love. This is the company’s first foray into pay-per-view streaming content, which can be enjoyed by opera lovers worldwide.

While McCaw Hall's stage may be dark, opera music continues to reverberate in the Pacific Northwest and beyond: Starting every Saturday on April 25, enjoy Seattle Opera Mornings on King FM. Classical KING FM 98.1 will broadcast recordings of previous Seattle Opera performances including Tosca, La traviata, The Magic Flute, and Madame Butterfly. Broadcasts will be available on the radio and at king.org every Saturday morning at 10 a.m. Pacific Time. 

As the days get longer and Spring hits Seattle in the first quarter of 2020, The Opera Center bustles with free and low-cost activities for all ages. The mainstage operas attract big crowds Eugene Onegin (1/11 a?' 1/25) and Charlie Parker's Yardbird (2/22 a?' 3/7) at Marion Oliver McCaw Hall. But, adjacent to McCaw Hall, is Seattle's newest education, artistic and civic space known as The Opera Center. This state-of-the-art facility opened to the public on December 15, 2018 and is accessible to everyone.

In the centennial year of legendary alto-saxophonist Charlie Parker, one company is using opera to tell a story about jazz. Seattle Opera presents Charlie Parker's Yardbird, a work created by saxophonist and composer Daniel Schnyder and Bridgette Wimberly, an award-winning poet and playwright.

When stage director Lindy Hume last worked at Seattle Opera, her powerful Rigoletto sparked important #MeToo conversations with a story intended to be devoid of hope. Next up, she's bringing something completely different to McCaw Halla?"a sparkling fairytale that families will fall in love with.

Musicologist, writer, and opera-lover Naomi Andre has been appointed Seattle Opera's inaugural Scholar in Residence. She is the author of Black Opera: History, Power, Engagement, which The New York Times describes as "A necessary exploration of how race has shaped the opera landscape in the United States and South Africa." Additionally, Andre works as a professor at the University of Michigan, teaching Women's Studies, Afroamerican/African Studies, and more.

For years, Lindy Hume, stage director of Seattle Opera's August production of Rigoletto, has been frustrated by the way opera celebrates misogyny through its “bad boy” characters. In beloved works such as Don Giovanni, Carmen, and Tosca, sopranos must rehearse how to fall, how to be stabbed, brutalized, and thrown across the room, behaviors they would never accept in real life.

The brand-new, state-of-the-art rehearsal, storage and administrative building is now ready for use by the opera company

Come celebrate the Grand Opening of Seattle Opera's new civic home! This state-of-the-art building will allow the company to expand its work with communities across Washington State, and, from 2-5 p.m. on Saturday, December 15, members of the public are invited to a free open house. 

There comes a moment late in act two of Waitress, the Jessie Nelson-Sara Bareilles musical now onstage at Tennessee Performing Arts Center's Andrew Jackson Hall, when Desi Oakley - the actress portraying Jenna Hunterson, the show's very pregnant heroine - finds herself bathed in the bright glow of a spotlight and she delivers the show's stirring and emotionally driven climax: a performance of Bareilles' plaintive pop ballad "She Used to Be Mine," arguably the score's best-known and most beloved song.

The Orpheum Theatre has announced that individual tickets for FINDING NEVERLAND go on sale to the public on Friday, October 20th at 10am. FINDING NEVERLAND will play January 23-28, 2018.

The musical Finding Neverland is about holding fast to the child inside of us that believes in magic - and magic really only works when it is paired with heart. The same heart that makes us unashamedly cry out 'I Believe' and claps till Tinker Bell is resuscitated before our very eyes. The fantasy of J.M. Barrie's Neverland awaits you at the Kravis Center for the Performing Arts in this NETworks Presentations, LLC production of the musical Finding Neverland featuring music and lyrics by Gary Barlow and Eliot Kenned, and a book by James Graham.

FINDING NEVERLAND will play the Providence Performing Arts Center (PPAC), November 28 December 3, 2017. In Providence, FINDING NEVERLAND is part of the Taco/White Family Foundation Broadway Series.
