The Morgan-Wixson Theatre in Santa Monica will present Terrence McNally's barb-filled love letter to the madness of high-stakes New York theater, It's Only a Play, playing now through Feb. 9, 2020, with performances on Fridays and Saturdays at 8 p.m. and Sundays at 2 p.m. The production is directed by Aric Martin, produced by Kalila Horwitz, and stage managed by Ashley DeFrancesco, with costume design by Kristie Mattsson and set and lighting design by William Wilday. Executive and Artistic Director, Keith Gerth and Associate Artistic Director, Stephen Smith of the Oil Lamp Theater in Glenview announce their next production, the uproarious comedy Play On! by Rick Abbot. This production is directed by Keith Gerth and will be performed from March 21st through May 5th 2019 at 1723 Glenview Road in Glenview.

Anyone who has ever been involved in a volunteer theatrical production will certainly understand the craziness associated with amateurs attempting to put on a play due to both their lack of acting experience, taking direction, or the maddening interference from its meddling playwright who drops in at every rehearsal with newly revised and/or added scenes which contradict what they have already been rehearsing. Such is the case in Rick Abbot's comedy PLAY ON! which is currently being presented at Theatre Palisades as the second show of its 2018 season, directed by Sherry Coon and produced for the community theater group by Martha Hunter and Sue Hardie.

The new play, A Reasonable Expectation of Privacy by recent MFA Dramatic Writing graduate Suzanne Bronson will be performed on Friday, May 12th at 4:00pm at NYU Tisch School of the Arts, at 721 Broadway, 7th floor, in the Goldberg Theatre.

August Strindberg Repertory Theatre, under the leadership of Robert Greer, is committed to production of his plays in new translations and interpretations that illuminate the plays of Sweden's national playwright, whose work remains as relevant today as when they were written.  The company continues its explorations November 12 to December 3 at Gene Frankel Theatre, 24 Bond Street, presenting a double-bill of two-character plays -- 'Pariah' and 'The Stronger' -- in alternating rep with with Strindberg's Arabian Nights play, 'Abu Casem's Slippers.'

The Drilling Company's Shakespeare in the Parking Lot, ever fond of holding a mirror up to its own neighborhood, is adapting the story into a fable of the Lower East Side in the first production of its 2016 season, July 7 to 24, directed by Kathy Curtiss.
